About the Organisation
Our client is one of  Australia's leading industrial companies committed to sustainability and environmental responsibility. They are currently undertaking a significant project to construct a new majo recovery facility in Blacktown. This facility aims to revolutionize waste management by efficiently sorting and processing recyclable materials.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Safety Specialist to join the team on a 8 week contract. As the Senior Safety Specialist, you will play a critical role in overseeing safety procedures and protocols during the handover, installation of heavy machniery and commission phase of the new facility.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide systems support and supervision from a safety perspective for construction activities.
  • Conduct safety reviews, including SWMS and JSAs, and actively participate in contractor toolbox talks.
  • Verify work carried out by contractors and ensure compliance with permit conditions.
  • Collaborate with contractors to improve working processes and safety standards.
  • Assist in the preparation of documentation for pre-start safety reviews.
  • Review and help set up traffic management plans and procedures.
  • Support the transition from one principal contractor to another, ensuring alignment with internal safety policies and procedures.
Requirements:
  • Working at Heights and Confined Space certifications.
  • Experience with mechanical equipment, particularly conveyors, is highly desirable.
  • Strong risk management skills and the ability to assess hazards and control measures effectively.
  • Background in heavy industry with varied experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and stakeholder engagement.
Work Hours:
  • 8 hours per day, starting at 6:30 am.
  • Construction activities typically run from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.
  • Preparation and handover meetings with onsite manager from 6:30 am to 9:00 am.
Additional Support:
  • Onsite assistance and auditing support provided by internal HSE Team.
  • Collaboration with branch managers and other permit authorities to ensure safety compliance.
About You The ideal candidate will possess a proactive approach to safety management, with a focus on continuous improvement Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to navigate change management processes are essential. Previous experience in transitioning between principal contractors and familiarity with heavy industry environments are highly advantageous.
