The role
As the Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll head a small team of mechanical and structural engineers. Your role spans from project inception to bid/proposal, modelling, prototyping, manufacturing, testing, and commissioning. You'll be the primary technical authority for all Mechanical Design Engineering, overseeing a wide array of mechanical engineering tasks.
Main Duties
- Creating, testing, and refining new products, from small electronic enclosures to large Defence systems.
- Developing detailed 3D models using SolidWorks.
- Drafting manufacturing and assembly instructions.
- Maintaining clear design records.
- Ensuring products meet project goals and safety standards.
- Considering user needs and operating conditions in design.
- Designing tests to ensure products can be made reliably.
- Helping transition products to manufacturing.
- Collecting evidence to support design decisions.
- Setting up the Windchill Product Data Management system.
- Prepare System Design Reviews and Detailed Design Reviews design packs for submission to clients for approval of designs.
- Proficient in using the Windchill Product Data Management (PDM) system.
- Skilled in conducting Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to assess stress in equipment assemblies.
- Knowledgeable about RF and electronic systems used in Defence applications across land, sea, and air.
- Experienced in Defence systems engineering.
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field.
- CPEng, NER, and/or RPEQ certification.
- Extensive experience in Mechanical Design is a must.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in product development, overseeing projects from conception to market launch.
- Proficiency in 3D mechanical CAD software, particularly SolidWorks.
- Familiarity with various metals, engineering plastics, and electromechanical hardware.
- Previous work experience within an ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
- Possession of Defence Security Clearance (highly desirable)
