Southern covers a large area of the state, from Goulburn and Crookwell to the Victorian border, and surrounds the ACT on three sides. A total of 44 537sq kms, extending from the pristine beaches of the NSW South Coast, the farmlands of the Southern Tablelands, across the picturesque Monaro and spectacular Snowy Mountings of the Great Dividing Range. 

We are home to five large Aboriginal nations – the Gundungurra, Ngambri, Ngunnawal, Ngarigo and Yuin people. Southern NSWLHD comprises of four Networks - Tablelands is centred around Goulburn, Monaro centred around Queanbeyan and Cooma, the Coastal Network located in the far south-east corner of NSW, and the Integrated Care Network.

Where you'll be workingAn exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and suitably qualified Intensivist to join the medical team at Goulburn Base Hospital in the Mulwaree Shire, part of the Tablelands Network.

The Goulburn Health Service is located in the Gundungurra Nation on the Southern Tablelands region of NSW. It is a networked service spread over three campuses, Goulburn Base Hospital, Crookwell and Yass Hospitals.

Goulburn Base hospital is a new redeveloped hospital which opened it’s doors in December 2021 marking the long awaited delivery of a 99 bed hospital at level 4 role delineation.  It offers the following services:

  • Emergency department
  • Medical imaging department
  • Intensive care unit
  • Operating theatres, day surgery and recovery areas
  • Medical, surgical, paediatric, rehabilitation inpatient units with specific designated Palliative care beds within the Medical IPU
  • Maternal and newborn unit, birthing suite and special care nursery, as well as paediatric and antenatal outpatient clinics.

What you will be doing

Reporting to the Director of Medical Services, you will play an important role in providing contemporary comprehensive specialist services in Intensive Care Medicine for optimal patient outcomes.

Provide and support training to clinicians across multiple disciplines to achieve quality education and safe clinical practice. 

The role and responsibilities are to be carried out in a manner that is consistent with delegations, policies, procedures and operations systems of HealthShare NSW, and in line with the NSW Health Code of Conduct. 

There will be plenty of opportunity to participate in combined team meetings in order to grow the Intensive Care services and participate in collegiate improvement practices, teaching and research projects

Specialists, Fellows and soon to be Fellows are also encouraged to apply. This role would be undertaken within an approved scope of practice and within the SNSWLHD in conjunction with other existing local Anaesthetists.

Selection Criteria

  1. Current Authority to Practice as a Medical Practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia/Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or eligibility for same.
  2. Fellowship of the College of Intensive Care Medicine of Australia and New Zealand or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Staff Specialist (State) Award or under the Health Insurance Act 1973
  3. Australian/New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, or eligible for sponsorship to work in Australia
  4. Demonstrated technical and professional competence as a Consultant Intensivist, with clinical hospital experience within the last two years
  5. Demonstrated participation in, and commitment to quality assurance activities relevant to the practice of Intensive Care Medicine
  6. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, especially with senior medical practitioners and clinicians
  7. Commitment to minimising unwarranted clinical variation and to work within the culture of ICU including attendance, documentation, handover, supervision of trainees and agreed clinical portfolios
  8. Commitment to equitable participation in the on-call roster with other Consultant Intensivists, as rostered

Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specific DiseasesThis is a Category ‘A’ position, please read and understand NSW Health policy directive .  All new employees must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy. OASV requirements also include proof of vaccination against influenza and is compulsory for NSW Staff that enter any Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF) or who work in NSW Health owned and operated RACFs.

All NSW Health Category A workers are required to have received at least two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine. You will be required to provide a record of your COVID-19 vaccination status if successful.
