This position will be located in the Department of Adolescent Young Adult Medicine at Westmead Hospital.Successful applicants will expect to provide AYA services at Westmead Hospital and other sites of clinical operation of the Department across WSLHD, including inpatient, outpatient clinic and on-call services. Senior Medical Practitioners are expected to provide AYA services as determined and required by the facility.The SMO will be required to provide clinical services consistent with the specialty of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine with special emphasis on Eating Disorders, Complex chronic illness and transition, and gender affirming care. Inpatient Services provided will include medical stabilisation and refeeding and associated therapeutic interventions for patients with eating disorders.In addition, the SMO will attend and participate in the Department meetings such as M & M, multidisciplinary, Journal and Clinical meetings.The role will include undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research and supervision.The Department of Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Medicine provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary health care for young people aged between 14 and 25 years (and their families), with chronic medical, developmental, and biopsychosocial concerns on an inpatient and outpatient basis. This is achieved through medical assessments and ongoing medical management of complex presenting illnesses, such as anorexia nervosa, as well as through a multidisciplinary team approach to individual, group and family assessments and ongoing therapy. This multidisciplinary approach includes biopsychosocial, developmental and family assessments, counselling and psychotherapy, advocacy and research, patient education, transitional care planning, and networking with Western Sydney Local health District agencies and other community services. Teleconferencing support is also provided to regional and rural areas to assist local staff in managing complex adolescent patients in their own area health services when ever possible.At Westmead Hospital, AYAM interventions are primarily focused on the Adolescent Ward, the Adolescent Outpatient Clinics and a medical clinic at High Street Youth Health Service. Consultation and liaison services are also provided, on referral, to adolescent patients in outlying wards who are unable to be accommodated in the Adolescent Ward during their admission to hospital.The Adolescent Team has specialist experience in managing tertiary referrals of adolescents with anorexia nervosa, as well as transition for other chronic illnesses.Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.Selection CriteriaPlease outline how you satisfy the selection criteria listed below. In addressing the selection criteria, include any relevant skills, knowledge, qualifications and experience:· Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency.· Sound clinical knowledge of AYA practices demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.· Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:o High level interpersonal and communication skills.o Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.o Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and evidence-based best practice.o Demonstrated commitment to teaching and supervision.· Familiarity with research concepts and commitment to support basic, applied or clinical research within the Department.· Subspecialty interest or expertise appropriate to the needs of the Department.· Demonstrated project and team leadership.· Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning in the field of AYA Medicine.Working With Children CheckApplicants must provide evidence of a Working with Children Check issued by the Office of Communities Commission for Children and Young People.
