Clontarf Aboriginal College is a co-educational Catholic CARE (Curriculum and Re-engagement in Education) School in Perth that caters for Aboriginal students in Years 7-12. We provide a safe and nurturing environment for educationally marginalised students from metropolitan, rural and remote locations. Our on-site boarding house provides a unique setting for students to develop lifelong skills whilst accessing a quality education.
We are looking for a Social Worker to join our awesome Pastoral Care Team commencing 15 April 2024. The position will involve some evening and weekend work as the successful applicant supports students in both the boarding and school setting.
Skills/Expertise:
- Ability to develop positive relationships and be a positive role model, supporting the Catholic Ethos.
- Experience in performing the duties of a Social Worker providing social, emotional, and mental health support to meet the educational needs associated with student diversity.
- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal People and communities, understanding and expertise with Aboriginal Culture and social and emotional wellbeing issues experienced by Aboriginal people.
- A proven understanding and experience in working with Aboriginal young people who have experienced trauma and supporting trauma informed practice that is culturally appropriate; maintain cultural safety, confidentiality and respect for self-determination.
- Experience in risk assessment, management, and applying intervention strategies for young people.
- Promote positive mental health in students, school staff and the broader school community.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and cope with competing priorities and challenging situations, monitoring own stress levels and practicing and promoting self-care strategies.
- Experience in developing strong relationships with the community and working with external support agencies.
- Ability to work in a team environment and advise the School Principal on matters concerning students at high risk.
Essential:
- Current Driver's Licence.
- A tertiary qualification in Social Work is required.
- All employees of the School must abide by the Clontarf Aboriginal College Code of Conduct and the Catholic Education Western Australia Code of Ethical Conduct.
