About the role:

The Senior Social Worker will work as part of the St. Vincent’s Alcohol and Drug Service (ADS) and be the team leader for the Assertive Community Management (ACM) program. The Social Worker will direct and lead the clinical work of ACM, a multidisciplinary team, to assist individuals who experience multiple and complex needs. This role will ensure high level service to targeted individuals using an assertive, flexible and mobile practice approach. The ACM program forms a Hub across SESLHD, SLHD and St. Vincent’s Hospital Sydney.

The Senior Social Worker will strive to enable the ACM team to support individuals to:

  • Improve access to longer-term treatment and support for clients,
  • Improve general health, nutrition and social functioning, and
  • Reduce preventable hospital presentations for substance use issues,
  • Stabilise and reduce alcohol and substance use,

The Senior Social Worker will provide clinical leadership and oversee day to day operations of service for ACM, including supervision of ACM staff. Additionally in this role, the ACM Senior Social Worker will coordinate client allocation, ensuring client eligibility for admission to the program is assessed appropriately and monitor demand including service capacity and clinical activity.

The identification of areas of improvement in practice and to lead clinical quality improvement activities is an important aspect of this position.  Within the framework of the Mission, Vision, Values and Philosophy as well as the policies of St. Vincent’s Hospital, the ACM Senior Social Worker Level 4 Team Leader is responsible for leadership of the ADS Social Workers.

The ACM  Social Worker will be required to ensure high level clinical service provision, using advanced practice skills and independent professional judgement to solve problems, manage cases and facilitate comprehensive social work service in the Alcohol and Drug Service.

Selection Criteria:
1. Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia
2. Bachelor of Social Work or equivalent tertiary qualification with eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) and direct clinical experience in tertiary health care as a Social Worker.
3. Demonstrated expertise, legislative knowledge, high level skills and experience in social work models of practice; specialist alcohol and drug interventions including harm minimisation and co-morbid health issues; domestic violence; child protection. 
4. Experience working with vulnerable clients and families with complex health and psycho-social needs in a community setting.  
5. Demonstrated competencies and experience in leading and managing a multidisciplinary team and/or a team of social work professionals and in the provision of clinical supervision and education of staff.
6. Ability to undertake and lead clinical planning, research, quality improvement and education projects within ADS and for SVHN. 
7. High level oral, written, negotiation and computer communication skills with demonstrated experience in providing a consultancy service in Health to service managers.
8. Current unrestricted NSW driver’s license.
