The Social Worker provides a comprehensive social work service to families of children and individuals with deafness or hearing impairment. The Social Worker will work within the Cochlear Implant space and is concerned with the emotional and social wellbeing of children and families, which aims to minimise the impact that a diagnosis and treatment has on children and families, promote health outcomes, co-ordinate information and links with appropriate support services in the community. The Social Worker also provides a psychosocial assessment, case management, education where required and individual and family counselling, including pre and post-implant surgery support. The Social Worker liaises with all member of the CI team and external stakeholders to ensure the journey and ongoing management is streamlined for the child and their families.
- Formal Social Work qualifications and registration with professional body
- Demonstrated experience working with families with complex needs
- Experience working with families experiencing new diagnoses and the associated counselling elements
- Demonstrated commitment and ability to work as an active part of multidisciplinary team
- Practice consistent with client/family advocacy
- Experience in cochlear implant or paediatric hearing sector
- Excellent communication skills
