4AI Systems is building multi-sensor artificial intelligence perception and advisory systems for rail. The system is designed to help improve rail vehicles performance through harnessing sensor technology to alert to operational conditions in front of the moving vehicle. The system is deployed in Australia and North America and is continuing to grow. Our team seeks an experienced Software Developer to assist in the design and development of programming systems for a medium sized, privately owned business. We are looking for people who like to solve problems to create solutions, who can identify areas for improvement and want to grow with us on this exciting journey.
As a Software Developer, you will be asked to work on a variety of different projects and be able to manage multiple deliveries as reasonably required. We seek individuals who have experience with other SME companies and understand the requirement to get involved at every level. Ideally the successful applicant will be a self-driven, has excellent attention to detail, and can work as part of a team.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop programming systems making specific determinations about system performance
- Document software and maintain accurate records
- Test programs to assure production of a quality product
- Respond promptly and professionally to bug reports
- Coding and debug applications in various software languages
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions
Experience and Qualifications
You will demonstrate that you have:
- Software development experience of 3+ years
- Bachelors degree in Software Engineering, Computer Sciences, or related field
- Firm understanding of design methodology
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Understanding of flowcharting and computer logic
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of our team
- A strong self-start, able to hit the ground running
- Excellent time-management skills
The ideal candidate may also have:
- At least three years of web application development experience
- Familiarity with SCRUM, Agile and other current practices
- Experience developing in a variety of programming languages and environments (particularly C++, Python and Typescript)
- Experience with computer vision and/or state estimation would be advantageous

This vacancy is based in Warabrook, Newcastle, NSW, but may require travel from time to time. We have some flexibility in hours and days depending on the expertise offered and the final role negotiated. Remuneration is negotiable.
