Job description

About the role:As a Mid-Level Software Engineer, you have the crucial role of building the application framework, upholding our Software Engineering processes and championing our standards and agile ways of working. You will work in a passionate engineering team dedicated to build and maintain solutions for our first responders.Victoria Police is a contemporary and agile workplace, supporting flexible working arrangements.Your duties will include:
  • Develop and implement technology solutions we need to keep the community safe
  • Work on front end and/or back end
  • Design and build highly scalable systems
  • Work collaboratively with internal teams to define, design, develop, and release new features and products
  • Unit-test code for robustness, including edge cases, usability, and general reliability
  • Work on bug fixing, improving code quality and application performance.
  • Engage in continuous improvement of all aspects of the Software Development lifecycle.
As the successful applicant, you will have:
  • Tertiary qualifications in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related disciplines
  • About 1-2 years of industry experience
  • Experience with front-end and/or backend Software Development
  • Expertise in developing backend web services with Java/C# or similar compiled, server-oriented languages
  • Proficient in SQL and/or NoSQL database technologies
  • Previous work with docker and containerised applications is desirable
  • Previous experience with cloud services would be ideal (Azure/AWS/GCP).
  • Good understanding of defensive coding and common security
Requirements and relevant information:
  • VPSG4 salary range $92,332 to $104,762 p.a. plus superannuation.
  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head. To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen. (Australian Citizenship is a must. PR not sufficient)
  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
