Our strategy is to focus on creating a safe work environment where our employees feel strongly connected to our values and objectives, and where the capability of our people is key to our success.Come and be a part of this success.About the RoleThe role of Specialist Aviation Compliance is to provide essential aviation safety and compliance oversight on BHP WA Iron Ore (WAIO) aviation operations, in accordance with BHP's GLD Aviation, Flight Safety Foundation's Basic Aviation Risk Standard (BARS) and BHP WAIO's Aviation Management Procedure.Reporting to the Superintendent Mass Transport, you will be required to:
- Ensure conformance with the BHP Charter, the BHP Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations.
- Model an overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development.
- Provide aviation oversight to BHP WAIO's Central Pilbara aerodromes, including (but not limited to) ensuring:
- Aviation Operations are conducted in accordance with Civil Aviation Safety Regulations under the Civil Aviation Act
- Aerodrome Operations are conducted in accordance to CASA Manual of Standards Part 139
- BHP WAIO Helicopter Operations are conducted in accordance with CASA and BARS
- Effective Safety Management System (SMS) meetings
- Effective Aerodrome Emergency Planning and aviation-focused audits
- Identifying and initiating aerodrome capital projects and maintenance requirements
- Review and guidance on documentation required for Certified aerodrome operations
- Risk Management for aviation activities within WAIO including execution of BHP Aviation Governance Framework
- Operational and contingency management of disruptions to scheduled air-transport activity including after-hours support to aerodrome and logistics teams
- Peer review of, and input into, aviation related projects and associated documentation to ensure integrity with respect to aviation industry safety standards and compliance requirements.
- Available to operate as 2IC support for the Mass Transport Superintendent when required or requested.
- Solid aviation industry experience, with a minimum of 12 months spent working in the aviation sector within the last five years
- At least 2 years' experience in aerodrome operations/compliance
- Flight operations management experience desirable
- Airline logistics/operational experience an advantage
- Aerodrome Reporting Officer certification (not essential)
- Ability to pass security background checks for aerodrome security compliance
- Team oriented with a bias to action
- Able to multi-task and function safely whilst under pressure

- Effective organiser and planner with the ability to problem solve
- Well-developed written and verbal presentation skills
