The Specialist Behaviour Support Practitioner is a role within Disability Services that is accountable to the Manager, Allied Health Services for:
- Working collaboratively with people with disabilities, families, Support Workers and other Disability Services staff, to provide Specialist Behaviour Support assessment and intervention plans to support people with disabilities who are engaging in behaviours of concern, with a focus on placing the human rights of a person with a disability at the centre of planning and improving their quality of life.
- Delivering services to clients who require positive BEHAVIOUR SUPPORTs aligned to the program of funded support they have, which may include the use of Restrictive Practice.
For participants of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), BEHAVIOUR SUPPORTs will be delivered in accordance with the goals outlined in their NDIS Plans, in a compliant manner aligned to the NDIS Practice Standards and Quality Indicators established by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.
- Undertaking assessments of clients who have or are at risk of having restrictive practices imposed on them, and developing alternative least, restrictive interventions, that aim to reduce and eliminate restrictive practices where possible.
- Providing professional advice, education and training for Disability Services staff and stakeholders, to ensure widespread consistency and compliance in the delivery of evidence based positive BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT processes, and the use, reduction, and elimination of restrictive practices.

Must hold a current Australian issued driver’s licence (equivalent to minimum class C).

Essential Qualifications:
An appropriate degree or equivalent qualification in Disability & Developmental Education, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Social Work, or Speech Pathology which entitles registration or full membership with the relevant Allied Health profession’s board.
Occupational Therapists and Psychologists must have full registration with the relevant profession’s board and maintain registration.
Post Graduate Certificate in Positive Behaviour Support or other post graduate studies is desirable.

Screening Checks
If you are new to the department and are invited to an interview, you will be required to produce a National Police Check, which has been issued within six months of your application for the role. National Police Checks can be applied for via the South Australia Police or through an Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission accredited body.
