Special School Transdisciplinary Registered Music Therapist

Music Therapy (Allied Health)

3-4 days/week negotiable

An exciting opportunity exists for a Registered Music Therapist to join our music therapy team, teachers and other allied health professionals, working in a special school to support autistic students. In this school-based role you should expect to:

Job Role

As a Registered Music Therapist employed by Giant Steps, you will work within a transdisciplinary team in the classroom to develop and deliver individualised supports and programs that will enable each child to reach their full potential. All team members share the responsibility for supporting lessons, meal times, playground, all aspects of self-care and transport. The skills you will bring to the team as a Music Therapist include:

  • Assessment of individual sensory, social and communication needs in collaboration with the class team
  • Setting music therapy goals that sit alongside the Victorian Arts curriculum
  • Tracking individual progress towards goals using observational data, photos and video
  • Collaborating with class teams on integrating music and music therapy supports into classroom programs across the week
  • Supporting organising committees for school events, assemblies and incursions
  • Liaising with families in relation to music therapy goals, strategies and assessment
  • Opportunity to support the professional learning of parents and colleagues by disseminating information through planned professional development

Criteria

Essential:

  • Masters or Post-Graduate qualification in Music Therapy
  • Current registration with the Australian Music Therapy Association
  • Current VIC Working with Children check and NDIS worker check
  • Interest in working with neuro-diverse people
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an integrated setting consisting of therapists, special educators and parents
  • Flexible and adaptive thinker
  • Strong vocal and guitar skills
  • Committed to ongoing professional development and learning
