Job description

Position: Speech Pathologist

Inspire Therapy Group is seeking a full-time Speech Pathologist to join our dedicated and experienced team. 

You will work within a multidisciplinary team in a therapeutic environment. Your responsibilities will include identifying, assessing, and treating communication problems related to speech, language, and feeding. Working with patients of all ages, you will aim to improve communication skills through various therapeutic modalities. As a Speech Pathologist at Inspire Therapy Group, your scope of practice will encompass addressing language delays and disorders, covering content, form, and use. You will also treat articulation difficulties and address literacy difficulties, tackling challenges or disorders related to reading and writing. The Role:

  • Multidisciplinary Team Collaboration: Work with speech, occupational, and positive behaviour therapists.
  • Identify, assess, and treat communication problems related to speech, language, and feeding.
  • Handle communication disorders, including ASD, developmental delays, language delays, and fluency disorders.
  • Provide initial assessments and evaluate progress regularly using appropriate measures.
  • Prepare accurate and timely reports to assist in future planning and recommendations.
  • Liaise with schools, preschools, and other professionals as appropriate.
  • Use standardized and non-standardized tests to diagnose and analyse impairments.
  • Teach augmentative or alternative communication methods and their use to children.
  • Develop tailored plans to meet each child's needs.
  • Select appropriate therapeutic modalities within an evidence-based framework.
  • Teach children with little or no speech capability how to make sounds, improve voices, and increase language skills.
  • Help those who have lost speech develop or recover reliable communication skills.
  • Assess and monitor communication development during treatment.
  • Adjust treatment methods if progress is not seen.
  • Incorporate various activities for speech therapy for children.
  • Adapt and modify the environment, including assistive technology, to meet individual needs.
  • Monitor and reassess the effectiveness of speech therapy interventions.
  • Document services to ensure accountability and meet reimbursement standards.
  • Prioritize and schedule work tasks independently.
  • Participate in research projects related to communication.
  • Exhibit excellent communication skills and patience to handle people with speech problems.
  • Write comprehensive assessment and progress reports.
  • Act in accordance with best practice standards and regulations.
  • Participate in trans-disciplinary meetings to review evaluation results and integrate findings.
  • Manage inventory of therapeutic equipment and assessments.
  • Maintain clinical and administrative records in accordance with professional standards and policy.
  • Use professional literature, evidence-based research, and continuing education content to make best practice decisions.
  • Guide ethical decision-making in practice.
  • Determine the need for evaluations and make appropriate referrals to other professionals.
  • Participate effectively in parent feedback sessions, presenting assessment and therapy results clearly and explaining goals in simple terms.
  • Develop individualized therapy plans for aged care patients to address communication difficulties.
  • Collaborate with caregivers, families, and other healthcare professionals to support the communication needs of elderly patients.
  • Implement therapeutic strategies to improve the quality of life for older adults through enhanced communication abilities.
  • Monitor and document progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary to ensure optimal outcomes for aged care patients.

License/Certification/Qualification/Compliance:

  • Tertiary speech pathology qualifications and current SPA registration
  • Certified Practising Speech Pathologist (CPSP) certification.
  • A member with Speech Pathology Australia (or eligible for membership).  
  • Eligibility for registration with Medicare.
  • Professional indemnity insurance or willingness to obtain  
  • Valid police check and working with children check.
  • Current drivers licence and own vehicle.
  • Valid NDIS Worker Screening Clearance, or willingness to obtain

  • Prior NDIS experience is highly regarded but not necessary
