About You:

About the Role:

An exciting opportunity is presented to work within the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network as a Speech Pathologist within the Aged Care, Rehabilitation and Palliative Care Division.

As a Speech Pathologist you will provide speech pathology assessment and intervention for the population of NALHN, with the aim of optimising health outcomes for all.

Speech Pathologists apply clinical experience, increasing clinical knowledge and professional competence to plan, implement and evaluate comprehensive and integrated speech pathology services to the needs of clients of NALHN.

In this role you will work under limited direct supervision and may provide direction and support to less experience Speech Pathologists, allied health assistants and students. You will work within multidisciplinary teams in inpatient, community, and outpatient settings. The overarching role is to provide a comprehensive holistic service to patients / consumers and their families, specifically for the treatment of any communication or swallowing impairments they may experience during their involvement with ACRPC.

Speech Pathology services are offered across a variety of inpatient, home-based and community settings within the Rehabilitation and Geriatric clinical services based at Modbury with some outreach community work. In this role you will have the opportunity to rotate through a number of clinical services:

  • Geriatrics: Provision of speech pathology assessment, diagnosis and treatment for older adults while liaising with their families and carers. Areas of work include the inpatient Geriatric Evaluation Management service, the inpatient Geriatric Rehabilitation ward, Geriatrics in the Home, and Northern Reablement and Intermediate Care to Return Home (NRICH) program at ACH Healthia.
  • Rehabilitation: Provision of speech pathology assessment, diagnosis and treatment for adults participating in rehabilitation. This may involve assessment and intervention for adults with a range of diagnoses including stroke, progressive neurological conditions, brain injury and deconditioning. Areas within rehabilitation include: the inpatient rehabilitation wards, the Day Rehabilitation Service (6 week rehabilitation program in an outpatient setting) and the Rehabilitation in the Home program.

As a Speech Pathologist you may also opt to be part of the weekend roster, working 4.5 hours on a Saturday based on the inpatient rehabilitation wards however, occasionally actioning referrals from the acute speech pathology team in the inpatient Short Stay Medical unit, ED, or Palliative Care.

The Speech Pathology team within ACRPC routinely assess swallow function with Videofluoroscopic Swallow Studies on site. In this role you will have knowledge of this specialist area or be willing to undergo training.  

In this role you will work collaboratively with the Allied Health multi-disciplinary team and liaises directly with medical, nursing staff of NALHN and with other community agencies.

To be eligible for this position, you must hold an appropriate Degree or equivalent qualification which gives eligibility for full membership of the Speech Pathology Australia.
