Job description

About us

Carpentaria is a not-for-profit organisation providing disability and therapy services for children, adolescents and adults in the Northern Territory. We deliver innovative and flexible services to empower people to thrive and live a great life, and we are committed to a philosophy that respects the rights of individuals to make informed choices about their lives.

About the role

Based in Darwin (NT), we are looking for a Speech Pathologist to deliver specialist services to adults with complex swallowing and communication needs. You will work as part of our multi-disciplinary Therapy Services team, to deliver person-centred services to enhance participation and independence, empowering people with a disability to live a full life and achieve their goals. You will also have the opportunity to be part of our remote clinical team and deliver speech pathology services across remote communities in the Top End and Central Australia.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working in a culturally diverse environment, providing a contemporary, evidence-based speech pathology service, including assessment, treatment planning and evaluation, for people presenting with a wide range of conditions and syndromes, with a focus on dysphagia and swallowing disorders
  • Working with clients and their representatives to identify individualised goals and preferences, developing dysphagia, mealtime management, and/or communication plans
  • Selecting, developing, and tailoring augmentative and alternative communication systems, programs and resources for participants with communication needs
  • Leading and contributing to the development of individual and group programs within Carpentaria Therapy Service areas

About you

This position is open to candidates seeking either full-time or part-time employment. We are looking for someone with experience in the delivery of speech pathology services within a disability sector context, with a focus on dysphagia and swallowing disorders, and the ability to develop individualised strategies and clinical management plans that are responsive to the person’s needs and in line with their goals.

You will have a positive attitude and be adaptive and flexible to the changing needs of clients, NDIS and the organisation. Throughout your work you will build on strengths, and where challenges arise, you will approach them collaboratively, in partnership with families, carers, teachers and colleagues.

In addition, you will be able to demonstrate:

  • Tertiary qualification in Speech Pathology and current Certification with Speech Pathology Australia
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience with adult caseload including experience working with people with specialised or complex needs and disability
  • Well-developed interpersonal, communication, negotiation and influencing skills
  • Demonstrated clinical competency and experience in conducting assessments and writing high quality individualised assessment and program reports

You will also need to hold (or have the ability to obtain) a current Ochre Card, Criminal History Check, NDIS Worker Screening Clearance, First Aid certificate, evidence of Australian work rights, and an NT Drivers Licence.

Why work with us?

We provide a positive work environment that encourages and promotes work/life balance, a sense of humour and having fun. In this role you will work with an awesome team who will encourage and inspire you to develop and progress your skills and career, whilst supporting Territorians with disabilities to live their best life.

This position offers a fantastic opportunity to progress your career in the disability field, with opportunities for ongoing clinical support, supervision, leadership and professional development.

We value our teams, and our employees enjoy a range of benefits including:

  • Competitive salary
  • Salary packaging available (equivalent of up to $6,400 additional salary)
  • 5 weeks annual leave + 17.5% leave loading
  • $1,500 professional development allowance per year
  • Relocation assistance available for interstate candidates
  • Comprehensive induction program and shadowing of all disciplines
  • Flexible work arrangements
  • Latest technology including iPad, laptop, sit-stand dual screen workstation, and high quality therapy assessment resources
  • Access to internal professional development mentoring and resources (including case meetings, team projects, specialist interest groups)
  • Support to access PHN Professional Development grants
  • Opportunity to be part of our remote clinical team and deliver services across remote NT communities
  • Access to employee discounts and wellness benefits
