Job description

Our participants, Our people, Our purpose

Currently, there are around 4.3 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 600,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability.

For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.

A new role awaits

Are you enthusiastic about government policy, managing programs and making changes to systems that improve the lives of people with disability? We have an exciting leadership opportunity available in the Ecosystem Reform and Governance (ERG) Branch as EL1 Assistant Director Ecosystem Reform.

The Ecosystem Reform and Governance (ERG) Branch leads the NDIA’s involvement in reforms to deliver a unified ecosystem of support for people with disability, as recommended by the NDIS Review. The ERG Branch shapes and influences intergovernmental agreements and programs that interact with the NDIS, with a particular focus on foundational supports reforms.

The ERG Branch also coordinates whole-of-Agency engagement in the governance structures and processes that drive and enable reform, including the Disability Reform Ministerial Council (DRMC), Commonwealth Budget process, and secretariat support to the NDIA Board and associated committees

*Please note – Affirmative Measures provisions are also open for this position. The affirmative measure positions are to improve employment opportunities for people with disability and Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people in the Australian Public Service.

Where you can add value
The EL1 Assistant Director Ecosystem Reform will have a lead role in the NDIA’s work to shape, influence and deliver foundational supports related reforms.

Foundational Supports are a key area of reform identified by the NDIS Review, which recommended the investment in foundational disability supports to bring fairness, balance and sustainability to the ecosystem supporting people with disability.  At National Cabinet at the end of last year all governments agreed to jointly fund and deliver foundational supports.

You will work closely with the Department of Social Services (DSS), state and territory governments and the disability community, and engage with a diverse range of tasks, including, but not limited to:

  • Contributing to the national Foundational Supports Strategy, and shaping the design, delivery and rollout of foundational supports for people with disability
  • Leading and developing systems, processes and guidance to ensure foundational supports is integrated and connected across the Participant Pathway and alongside Scheme reform.
  • Developing and maintaining internal and external stakeholder networks, with a particular focus on building the awareness and understanding across the Agency of foundational supports and its connection with the NDIS
  • Contributing and influencing the NDIA’s participation in interjurisdictional governance forums, including the Disability Reform Ministerial Council
  • Developing comprehensive briefings and artefacts that support Senior Executives to engage in foundational supports related reforms with governments and stakeholders including developing briefings for the Minister, NDIA Board and the Executive.
  • Identifying and assisting with the management of project risks, issues and benefits.
(NOTE: the key responsibilities of the role are based on current priorities and may change over time) Enough about us, let’s talk about you
