What you'll be doing
The inpatient speech pathology services provides specialist assessment and management of swallowing, speech, cognitive-communication and social-communication disorders for individuals with brain injuries. Provision of client-centred care involves working closely with family and the multidisciplinary team including participation in team based treatment and planning.
The Westmead Brain Injury Rehabilitation Service (WBIRS) is located at Westmead Hospital and provides comprehensive specialised rehabilitation services to people with traumatic brain injury (TBI). It provides a regional,
supra-regional and State-wide service primarily to people of Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) and to the Central West, Far West and North Western regions of NSW. It consists of an inpatient program, community rehabilitation team, outreach team and research team. These arms of the service allow patients to receive rehabilitation from coma through to community reintegration. It is the only service within WSLHD providing rehabilitation services to people with brain injury.

Qualification: Degree in Speech Pathology recognised by Speech Pathology Australia
Selection Criteria
- Recognised tertiary qualification in Speech Pathology and eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia
- Post-graduate experience in management of patients with brain injury or adult neurological conditions and neurorehabilitation
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage clinical and non-clinical responsibilities
- Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team environment
- Demonstrated use of the principles of evidence-based practice
- Demonstrated commitment to professional development within the area of neurorehabilitation
- Demonstrated commitment to supervision and principals of life-long learning
