As a Speech Pathologist, you will play a crucial role in diagnosing and treating speech, language, and communication disorders. You will be part of a growing Allied Health team, working autonomously to support clients in achieving their NDIS goals.
Essential Criteria
- Tertiary qualification in Speech Pathology
- Current membership with Speech Pathology Australia
- Strong knowledge and understanding of the NDIS
- Experience with AAC (Augmentative & Alternative Communication)
- Working With Children's Check (WWCC)
- Valid Driver's License and access to a registered vehicle
- Current First Aid & CPR Certificate
- Willingness to obtain a Criminal History Check
- Compulsory third-party insurance on private vehicle (for work purposes)
- Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and human development
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to empathize with clients
- Up-to-date knowledge of evidence-based practices and developments in the field
- Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards within the Australian healthcare system
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to diagnose speech, language, and communication disorders.
- Evaluate oral-motor, speech, language, and cognitive functions to develop targeted treatment plans.
- Recommend and prescribe AAC systems under the NDIS and other funding agencies, including preparing funding applications.
- Develop individualized plans based on assessment findings using evidence-based interventions.
- Implement therapeutic interventions to address speech, language, fluency, voice, and swallowing disorders.
- Manage a caseload of clients, including those with complex needs, in their natural settings.
- Use a strengths-based, client-centered approach to support clients in identifying and achieving their goals sustainably.
- Provide client-centered Speech Pathology services to clients of all ages, focusing on positive outcomes.
- Monitor and adjust treatment strategies to optimize progress and outcomes.
- Educate clients and their families about communication disorders, treatment options, and strategies for improvement.
- Provide counseling and support to help clients cope with the challenges associated with communication disorders.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, educators, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure coordinated care.
- Communicate effectively with clients, families, and caregivers to facilitate understanding and adherence to treatment plans.
- Liaise with the NDIS, Support Coordination, external organizations, and other referrers/funding bodies as required.
