We are a not for profit, registered Indigenous Corporation and charity responding to the decrease in brain health in our communities. We deliver and co-design personalised, and community-based programs supported by neuroscientific research to address the impact of adverse life events in children, young people, and families. One of our core programs, The Yili Program, is a short-term alternative education program, invaluable in its uniqueness and flexibility. Young people gain experience in a wide range of activities that build their confidence and self-esteem, which increases their engagement with learning.
We are currently seeking a passionate Sports Coach to join our team on a part-time basis, supporting our Yili Program in Inala and Oxley.
About the role:
- Competitive salary and ongoing development opportunities, particularly relating to neuroscience and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge of cultures and practice.
- Join a dedicated team in supporting a small group of youth (approximately 3 – 8 kids on a typical day), you will have the opportunity to make a direct impact on participant’s ongoing development.
- Primarily, this role is responsible for enhancing the health and well-being of youth by creating and implementing a physical activity program, and supporting youth aged 8 to 17 in participating in these activities with the assistance of Youth Workers
- The role will follow a standard 38 work week (8:30am - 4:30pm, Monday - Friday).
Your day may include:
- Create and facilitate individual and team sports and recreational activities for youth of varying abilities and interests, ensuring they align with their goals, interests, and capabilities
- Supervise and engage with youth throughout sport and rec activities and provide encouragement and guidance to motivate them and promote their overall engagement
- Establish connections with local sporting clubs and facilities to form partnerships and create opportunities for alternative sports and recreational activities
- Working collaboratively to ensure inclusion, access and participation and to maximise learning outcomes for all students.
- Comply with all occupational health and safety requirements, and complete relevant reporting and record keeping as required
- Role modelling Yiliyapinya’s values, actively participate in team collaboration, provide support to other team members and assist in other functions of the business as required
Our ideal new addition will have:
- At least 3 years experience working as a Sports Coach with youth
- Demonstrated experience working with high risk youth aged between 8 – 17 is highly desirable
- Excellent interpersonal skills and both written and verbal communication
- Strong organisation, time management and administrative skills
- Ability to build strong rapport with all stakeholders
- Youth work and/or social work experience or qualifications will be very favourably regarded
- Cultural safety adherence
- Relevant tertiary qualifications (Minimum Certificate IV) in health, fitness and/or welfare services
- Coaching / teaching qualifications
- Valid Blue Card
- Valid Drivers licence
- Valid First Aid Certificate
- Up to date with vaccination requirements - dealing with vulnerable people
