Harrup Park is the leading sport, recreation, and entertainment venue in the Mackay region. The venue prides itself on providing the highest quality food, beverage, gaming, and event offerings available in Mackay.
We already boast the best sporting facilities in the region however it’s set to get even better. The construction of the 25-million-dollar Great Barrier Reef Arena will springboard our facility above any other in regional Australia.
We have a modern function centre, 200 of the latest gaming machines, bars, a recently renovated café, and the best outdoor garden bar in the region. We are also the only club in Mackay that holds a 5-star kitchen food safety rating.
We host AFL games; top tier cricket matches and major concerts at our facility.
About the Role
As the Sports Development Officer you will be reporting to the Sports Development and Facilities Manager. You will be responsible for the administration and coordination of all sporting events held at Harrup Park and the Great Barrier Reef Arena.
Key Functions to this Position include;
- Database administration and management
- Assistance in preparation of grant applications
- Assist in preparing reports to The Board and Management of HP and MCA
- Assist in liaising with key local, state, and national stakeholders including but not limited to AFL, AFLQ, Queensland Cricket and Cricket Australia
- Assist in the coordination of all cricket and AFL events, ground, and event management
- Daily liaison with staff, umpires, club officials, players, and the public
- Assist with website management
- Liaise with media outlets
- Assist, develop and maintain an annual calendar of events for HP
- Work with other sports to ensure professional and effective use of HP facilities
- Work with AFL Mackay, MCA Junior & Senior and Mackay Whitsunday Presidents (or their delegates) to plan seasons and develop draws, rules and structures as requested.
- Prepare and distribute media reports as required
- Increase Participation rates
- Create initiatives to encourage involvement
- Assist in designing and implement Sports Development programs tailored to the needs and interests of the community
- Work closely with schools and clubs to ensure knowledge of activities is shared across the community
Essential Criteria:
- Strong and current working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and digital media.
- Demonstrated experience in dealing with web-based records and their management
- Budgeting skills
- Good communication skills including the ability to deal with the media
- Ability to work flexible hours
- High standard of personal presentation
- Reliable and punctual
- Previous experience in a similar role
- Mature minded person with the ability to establish a rapport and work cooperatively with key stakeholders across multiple codes
- Current “Working with Children” Blue Card
- Current Qld Drivers Licence
- Current First Aid Certificate
