Sports Trading Lead

After some recent business changes, PointsBet Australia is about to head into a exciting stage of it's journey and as we continue to grow, we're looking for a Sports Trading Lead to join the team.  

The Sports Trading Lead role will be responsible for providing high level commercial and operational insight, that advances the strategic direction of PointsBet. This position will be a key member of the 24/7 global trading function. Additionally, the leadership component to the role, will be focused on commercial and operational proficiency gained through industry experience, that will enhance the collective Sports Trading team. Furthermore, collaboration with relevant internal stakeholders is a mandate for the position, to ensure a seamless experience for our customers at each touch point.

What you’ll own:

• Provide operational leadership that ensures our sports products are traded and managed as per expectations.
• Assist is developing a connected culture with the team and the wider business, assist in connecting with wider business on a frequent basis.
• Execute on Risk management of sports events - process bets in accordance with risk management strategy 
• Monitor and analyse event and customer betting patterns and trends, outlining relevant performance to stakeholders.
• Assist the head of global sports in the day-to-day running of the Sports Trading team.
• Be willing to provide leadership and guidance, and assist in executing strategic goals.
• Become familiar with internal trading models, their inputs and price effectiveness on PointsBet platforms.
• Collaborate with Trading Leadership and reporting teams to develop and maintain appropriate reporting, analysis and insights for sports.
• Managing external relationships when required, driving commercial and customer outcomes, and maximize strategic results.
• Develop understanding of all internal platforms, and work with relevant internal departments to develop and enhance as necessary.
• Constant monitoring of the wider industry, and development of knowledge to ensure PointsBet is offering a modern product and in-line with client expectations.
• Monitor website content, display accuracy, with a developed understanding of the customer journey to ensure Pointsbet’s offering is precise and relevant.
• Adhere to Responsible Gambling guidelines, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards.

The skills we seek:

• Desired 4+ years experience in a trading or risk role 
• Degree qualified in statistics, mathematics or a business-related discipline
• Strong analytical and reporting skillset
• Outstanding statistical knowledge of sports, particularly Australian domestic football codes and US Sports
• Understanding of probabilities, approaching sporting events from the perspective of odds and probabilities
• Awareness of the broader gambling market and a developed understanding of the betting market activity
• Proactive attitude, with a strong willingness for problem solving
• Outstanding interpersonal skills
• Ability to work calmly and efficiently under pressure and process important decisions in a matter of seconds
• Ability to manage upwards, and a strong desire to learn
• Willingness to work some nights and weekends based on business needs around the sporting calendar
