- You are able to work through the full database lifecycle – from creation through to ongoing support – including optimization and maintenance.
What is the role?
We are looking for a Senior Database Administrator to join our highly motivated DBA team.
Working across the database and cloud technology space to build, maintain and support our database landscape, whilst also driving forward our future operations state.
Managing enterprise level database systems with complex interdependencies and high availability, security, performance, and scalability requirements.
New challenges will lurk around every corner, and you’ll be in the company of a highly skilled and motivated team, solving problems and driving innovative solutions collaboratively.
What will you be doing?
- Build and maintain databases across the landscape.
- Work closely with others to develop solutions to meet business requirements - perform assessments/POC and establish an execution/development plan.
- Utilising latest technology and aligning to strategic direction.
- Making sure the solution considers key aspects – security, disaster recovery, backup and restore, data maintenance, monitoring & alerting.
- Develop, update and maintain processes and procedures relating to database provisioning and maintenance.
- Monitor database status/alerts and address any issues accordingly.
- Database and query performance tuning as required.
- Incident management – working with the appropriate teams to review and resolve the issue. Then progressing the investigation for root cause and taking action to prevent reoccurrence.
- Developing and maintaining best practices across the database space.
- Progress key goals from agreed KPIs.
- Action BAU tasks as allocated in the DBA ticketing tool and make sure regular progress updates are given.
- Provide inputs to team strategic direction and technical issues.
Job Qualifications:

- Initiative and ownership to progress activities.
- Strong SQL/Database performance tuning skills.
- Experience in database administration and cloud infrastructure as code – including upgrades and migrations.
What credentials do you need?
- 5+ years of similar Database Administration experience
- Technology (or equivalent) degree
- High level of hands on administration experience with SQL Server & Postgres database technologies
- Strong skills in AWS usage and associated database administration – to be able to build and maintain:
- RDS, Aurora, AWS Cloudwatch, AWS CLI, AWS DMS & EC2 database build
- Good Linux & Windows experience – including shell/powershell scripting and crontab
Desirable
- Database Certification
- Cloud Certification
- Administration experience with any of the following database technologies:
- MySQL & Oracle
- Knowledge and experience with the following CI-CD/infrastructure as code tools
- Terraform, CDK, GitHub/GitLab and Cloudformation
- Experience with the following monitoring tools
- Pagerduty, ELK, Sentry One & AppD DB monitoring
- Experience with AWS ElastiCache (Redis) and Elasticsearch
- Experience with AWS DynamoDB
- K8s/Docker, Python & Lambda experience
