THE POSITION
Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Gastroenterologist who will work as part of the Department of Acute Medicine.
The position will involve management of patients in general gastroenterology, chronic liver disease, IBD, and both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.
This position is open to Gastroenterologist’s who have been deemed substantially comparable by the RACP and require peer review support.
THE HOSPITAL This hospital is the major referral hospital consisting of over 500 beds. They are the major clinical teaching and research site for The University of Tasmania and other institutions.
Services consist of acute, sub-acute, mental health and aged care inpatient and ambulatory services as well as a comprehensive range of general, speciality medical and surgical services which include a 24/7 day a week Emergency Department, 24/7 day a week critical care intensive care unit which also includes cardiothoracic intensive care, high dependency unit, cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, extensive burns treatment, hyperbaric medicine, neonatal and paediatric intensive care and high-risk obstetrics.
They support approximately 250,000 Tasmanians in the region.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Provide specialist treatment and care of patients in Gastroenterology.
- Undertake procedures as required in the Department of Gastroenterology
- Arranging onward referral of patients for medical services not available locally, ensuring open communication with referring units.
- Liaise with specialist colleagues as necessary for the care of hospital patients.
- Provide a consultative service to other specialist units.
- Participate in support and teaching programs for nursing and medical staff as well as undergraduate and postgraduates.
- Actively participate in Gastroenterology research.
- Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- Substantially comparable outcome by the RACP
- Current Drivers Licence
- Sound knowledge of current specialty practice in Gastroenterology
- Recent practice in acute hospital setting
- Ability to work a 24/7 shift-work roster which will include some nights, public holidays, and weekends.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to the general management of a clinical unit in a patient-focused environment, including the ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to work within personal level of expertise and seek assistance as needed from senior staff.
- Understanding of the mission and values of the organisation and an ability to apply them practically.
