General Surgery services provided by the Health Service are of the highest standard.Assist the Director of Surgery in ensuring that
General Surgery services provided by the Health Service are of the highest standard and delivered in an efficient and effective manner. The role entails management of acute and elective surgical conditions including both adult and children. A declared sub-speciality interest will be taken into account.The position assists with the education and supervision of surgical trainees and other medical staff, medical students, and other staff as well as, day to day management of surgical services including active participation in patient safety, clinical audit, research and service planning activities. An ability to function in a collaborative team environment is essential.
Employment benefitsTotal remuneration value of up to $466,736 p.a. (L27) or up to $427,063 p.a. (L24) is comprised of;
- A salary between $225,777 - $239,377 p.a. (L25 - L27)
- A salary between $188,800- $219,301 p.a. (L18 - L24)
- 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
- 17.5% leave loading

The Hospital:Our client is the main base hospital within Central Queensland with a population pool of about 250,000. Having completed a major redevelopment over the last few years, these improvements have enabled the establishment of a new general ward which will increase the hospital's capacity by 30 beds. The Rural Health Training Unit is on site with established rural health training programs, which are organised by the Continuing Medical Education/Rural Doctors' Training Program.The Hospital is officially recognised as a teaching hospital. They also host several registrar training posts and have a Medical Staff Support Unit and Medical Education Unit to provide access to professional development for all levels and delivery of accredited junior doctor training. The hospital has fully equipped intensive care and coronary care units. General and surgical specialty operations are undertaken by visiting specialists and staff surgeons with the support of a team of staff anaesthetists.The Hospital is a 305-bed facility and is the main referral hospital for Central Queensland. Specialist Medical Services include Emergency Medicine, General Medicine, Cardiology, Renal Medicine, Palliative Care, Psychiatry, Rehabilitation, Geriatric Medicine, Paediatrics,
General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, ENT, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Intensive Care and Anaesthetics. There are also a range of clinical services provided on a visiting basis from tertiary hospitals in Queensland. A new Cancer Care Unit provides care for local patients, with state-of-the-art equipment and services.Department of SurgeryThe Hospital has four operating theatres and two procedure rooms.The operating theatre complex is supported by a 6-bed ICU/HDU. The Department is accredited for specialist training and is heavily involved in teaching and research.The Hospital performed 6,771 elective surgeries during 2021 financial year. Their highly skilled theatre staff also delivered 3,398 emergency surgeries
