The Role:

Based in the community in Launceston, you will be joining a friendly and motivated multidisciplinary team including a small core team of specialists who, along with two registrars and working in conjunction with Palliative trained GPs, Nursing and Allied Health staff, provide service to a broad catchment area across Northern Tasmania. The role promises a variety of work, incorporating community, inpatient and acute client groups. The service is accredited for Diploma of Palliative Medicine and for Advanced Trainees in Palliative Medicine. See what we are all about.

We are a forward thinking team, with current projects including commencement of in-reach services to participating aged care facilities across Tasmania with a Clinical Nurse Consultant led model of care with support from a trainee medical Registrar and Palliative Care Medical Specialist. These services are being provided as part of the national Comprehensive Palliative Care in Aged Care measure, a joint state and Australian Government-funded initiative aimed towards improving palliative and end-of-life care capacity and capability in aged care facilities.

  • Provide the highest possible standard of specialist Palliative Care medical services, consultancy and advice to clients and families.
  • Facilitate the development and delivery of best practice specialist Palliative Care medical services in Tasmania.
  • Provision of teaching in Palliative Care for undergraduate and post graduate students, general practitioners and primary and specialist health professionals.
  • Promote and participate in Palliative Care research to improve evidence-based practice.
  • Work collaboratively with primary health service providers and specialist health service providers across the range of settings for effective continuity of care.
  • Actively pursue improved outcomes for clients in need of Palliative Care by participating in postgraduate teaching, clinical audits and evaluation.

Details of Appointment

Permanent, part time/full time, day work, position working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

*notwithstanding hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant

  • Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time and part time vacancies.

Salary:

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $210,000 - $301,349 per annum, pro rata

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $291,472 - $301,349 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance of $25,758 per annum, pro rata
  • Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,000 per annum, pro rata
  • Access to salary packaging
  • On call is a requirement of the role, and an allowance will be paid in addition to base salary.
  • Superannuation of 11%
  • Relocation package and accommodation allowance available
  • Market Allowance of 25% of base salary
  • May be entitled to participate in the Private Patient Scheme.

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  1. Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty

    *Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  1. Fellow with the Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine (AChPM) or a Specialist Medical Practitioner with extensive experience in Palliative Medicine

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

  1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
    1. crimes of violence
    2. sex related offences
    3. serious drug offences
    4. crimes involving dishonesty
  2. Identification check
  3. Disciplinary action in previous employment check.
