Strategic Transport Engineer

Public Sector People are currently inviting applications from suitably qualified Strategic Transport Engineers who are seeking an immediate contract role with a council.

The successful candidate will support the Strategic Transport Planning team by engaging in PIP reviews, addressing customer inquiries, handling LX project inquiries, and contributing to technical aspects of strategy development projects focused on rural roads, as well as pedestrian and cyclist infrastructure.

This will be an initial 3 month temporary contract via Public Sector People recruitment agency at a Band 6 level, with opportunity to extend for an addition 3 months.

Our client is seeking candidates with previous experience working within local government in a Strategic Transport position and proven ability to assist with the below tasks.

Responsibilities and Experience for this role:

• Assist the broader Strategic Transport team with policy writing
• Review planning applications from a Transport perspective
• Assist with strategy writing
• Undertake and assist engineering staff with traffic management issues
• Implement strategies to develop and maintain cost effective traffic monitoring
• Liaise with Vic Roads, Department of Transport, Public Transport Victoria, Emergency Services, Victoria Police and other statutory authorities when necessary
• Attend meetings relating to transport matters, including Council briefings and Council meetings, as required

• Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, which would qualify the applicant for membership of the Institute of Engineers of Australia
• Relevant experience in Strategic Transport Engineering and demonstrated knowledge of traffic and civil engineering principles
• Understanding of relevant road and traffic guidelines, standards, procedures and Government legislation
• Strong customer service skills, excellent written and oral communication skills
• An ability to be part of a working team
• An ability to respond to changing priorities and able to complete tasks within tight timeframes
