Job description

About Laing O’Rourke

Laing O’Rourke is a $6 billion international operation with 70 years of involvement in Australian construction and infrastructure, including nearly two decades under the Laing O’Rourke banner. The business delivers projects as diverse as the environments in which they are built, from high security military bases and major rail transport infrastructure projects, through to landmark buildings at the transport interface. Laing O’Rourke owns one of Australia’s largest plant and equipment hire company called Select Plant Australia. We know the right culture combined with purposeful technology will help us meet demand and deliver certainty for our clients. That’s the #powerofexperience.

About the role

We’re looking for a professional who enjoys working collaboratively with stakeholders to support the development of win strategies for upcoming projects.

The role is more than that. It’s hands-on – setting strategy meetings, research, writing and providing a hand on bids when needed.

The role is focused on supporting General Managers, Development Leads and Bid Teams through a process to develop strategies ahead of formal project bid phases, and building on the current Strategy to Win process to drive a consistent approach across the work winning function. This includes supporting Strategy to Win workshops through scheduling and attendance management; development of support material such as presentations, papers, and communication of clear summaries and actions following the sessions.

This role may suit someone with a business, proposal, research/academic or marketing and communication background. Some of our most valued team members have come from diverse personal and professional backgrounds such as journalism, fundraising and the arts. CVs that show a background in construction and professional services are welcomed – so too will CVs from other fields that demonstrate writing experience, organisational ability and people skills.

This is a national role and will involve working with bid teams based in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. Our roles are office based, with flexible options including staggered start and finish times.

Key responsibilities

We’re recruiting for a Strategy to Win Advisor to:

  • Facilitate the Strategy to Win process and capture discussion outputs. Workshops will typically be carried out by a Development Lead
  • Work with bid teams to develop well thought out win strategies
  • Engage with Bid Leads and Proposal Managers to facilitate transfer of discussion outputs from the pre-bid to bid phases
  • Manage content in SharePoint-based platforms, with ad-hoc control and formatting of Office documents
  • Coordinate production/scripting of technical videos to support proposals and projects
  • Research pipeline projects, develop background presentations, and support bid teams with specific client and market research

Writing and editorial skills are required to support delivery of clear, concise strategy papers and presentations, and ad-hoc support for bids.

Experience, skills and abilities

Experience in:

  • Strategy to win processes and collaborative engagement workshops
  • Stakeholder management
  • Developing summary papers or reports for issue to senior leadership
  • Reviewing the effectiveness of existing workflows and processes, and driving continuous improvement

Skilled in:

  • Gathering, analysing and interpreting data
  • Using collaborative engagement platforms such as SharePoint, Mural and shared information databases
  • Applying innovative thinking to problem solving and strategy

Able to:

  • Motive and influence others in a positive environment
  • Work collaboratively
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage your own time extremely well
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Conceive and drive strategic, tactical (and creative) ideas for incorporation into a broader win strategy
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Adapt to change while simultaneously maintaining focus on objectives and envisioning the bigger picture
  • Flexibly adapt to changes in business needs

Benefits

We work hard to create an environment that brings out the best in our people. We believe in building careers through providing a safe, connected and innovative culture that supports ongoing growth and development. We offer industry-leading benefits such as specialised learning and development programs, a mental health and wellbeing program, industry leading paid parental leave policy, an additional purchased leave option and coaching programs for staff on parental leave.

Diversity & Inclusion

We are committed to building a workforce that reflects the diverse society in which we live and work. Laing O’Rourke is proud to hold the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) Citation - Employer of Choice for Gender Equality.
