At SGCS, Music is a strong component of our curriculum across all stages. We offer specialist music tuition programs designed to further enrich the learning experience for our students.
We are currently seeking an experienced String Ensemble Director [Independent Contractor] to lead our String Ensemble.
The SGCS String Ensemble is a group of approximately 15 players, consisting mostly of violins, with the players currently being drawn from students in Years 3-10.
The requirements of the position are:

  • Direct weekly rehearsals for the SGCS String Ensemble, currently 3:30-4:45 pm on Monday afternoons
  • Prepare appropriate repertoire for the group, considering both the teaching aspect of the role, as well as the selection of suitable performance repertoire
  • Provide support and expertise to the Head of Music in relation to the String Ensemble
  • Attend and direct performances at the school and in the community when required
Essential qualities:
  • Appropriate music qualifications or nearing completion
  • Experience in teaching one of the orchestral string instruments (prefer violin/viola) and in directing String Ensembles
  • A high level of written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient organisational skills
  • An encouraging manner when working with students
Additional Requirements:
  • Valid WWCC
  • ABN for invoicing purposes
