Our client, a leading Defence company engaged in maritime building projects across Australia, is offering an exciting opportunity for a skilled and experienced professional to join their Maritime Sustainment business as a Structures Engineer. This exciting role is based in the Maritime Sustainment business, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge projects.
As the Structural Engineer, your primary role is to serve as the Design Acceptance Representative (DAR), ensuring that Capability Enhancement Platform Integration designs align with specifications and regulatory standards. Key responsibilities include:
- Providing leadership and establishing the governance framework for hulls and structures in projects.
- Collaborating with external subcontractors and design houses to enforce adherence to the governance framework.
- Securing and maintaining the DAR engineering delegation for Hull and Structures Engineering.
- Ensuring project compliance with statutory obligations and ADF regulatory and assurance requirements in ship hull and structure domains.
- Reviewing artefacts from Materiel Subcontractors related to ship hull and structure, ensuring alignment with Engineering Delivery processes and project technical requirements.
- Assessing technical risks in projects and articulating them in reports and meetings.
- Developing, reviewing, and endorsing Technical Risks associated with Engineering Changes within delegated parameters.
- Active participation in forums such as other working groups and System Reviews.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Australian Citizenship, with eligibility to obtain and maintain a defence security clearance.
- In-depth knowledge of Systems Engineering practices.
- Comprehensive understanding of ship Hull and structures, including design practices, rules, and regulations.
- Familiarity with structural design, considering sea-going loads, fatigue, shock, and vibration loads.
- Knowledge of manufacturing and fabrication methods, encompassing welding, surface preparation, and preservation.
- Exceptional communication skills, capable of thriving within a team or working autonomously.
- Ability to cultivate and sustain relationships with key stakeholders for necessary deliverables.
- Degree qualification in a relevant discipline such as Naval Architecture or equivalent; preference for Chartered Engineer status (RINA membership and CEng status are advantageous).
- Capability to obtain and hold the Design Acceptance Representative (DAR) engineering delegation from DDG SPO for Hull and Structures Engineering.
- Eligibility for clearance under International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
