About the Role:
As a Structural Steel Estimator, you will play a crucial role in identifying and successfully tendering the projects that SJC Engineering will work on. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Tender Selection: Spot and select the best tenders to quote on, ensuring our projects align with our standards.
- Material Take-Offs: Extract materials from architectural and structural drawings and models with precision.
- Project Specifications: Interpret every detail of the project specs to ensure nothing is missed.
- Site Visits: Get hands-on with site visits when necessary.
- Supplier Negotiations: Obtain quotes and negotiate the best deals with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Quotation Compilation: Compile accurate and detailed quotations, clearly defining assumptions.
- Client Presentations: Present and negotiate tenders with clients, showcasing our value.
- Performance Tracking: Monitor job profitability and manage budgets to keep projects on track.
- Estimating Database: Contribute to and maintain our robust estimating database.
- Team Support: Lend a hand with ad hoc tasks to support our team’s success.
About You: We are looking for someone self-driven, with an eagle eye for detail and a passion for the construction industry. Here’s what makes you a perfect fit:
- Experience: You have a background in estimating or project management, or you’re an experienced boilermaker or rigger familiar with Structural Steel processes, ready to transition into estimating or project management.
- Client Focus: Your goal is to deliver the best outcomes for our clients through high-quality, on-time, and within-budget project execution.
- Problem-Solver: You can make assumptions and provide estimates even with limited project information.
- Team Player: You are committed to the success of the SJC Engineering team, taking ownership and pride in your work.
Skills and Attributes:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
- Experience with Strumis and Bluebeam Revu preferred
- Ability to read engineering drawings.
- Project management experience advantageous.
- Trade qualification advantageous.
