The role

Are you currently studying Town Planning or Urban and Regional Planning, or interested in pursuing a career in the planning field? MidCoast Council now has a unique and exciting opportunity for a Student Planner to join our Land Use Planning or Major Assessments Department. This position will allow you to undertake your planning studies while working as a member of our Land Use Planning Team or Major Assessments Team. In addition to learning as you earn, the Student Planner will have access to an education package of up to $25,000 to assist in completing a planning qualification.

The Student Planner will contribute to interactions between Council, stakeholders, and the community and will undertake development assessment duties within the Major Assessments Team, and contribute to the development and implementation of planning projects, policies, strategies and plans within the Land Use Planning Team.

The successful candidate will be conscientious and committed to learning within a collaborative team environment, and will demonstrate a genuine interest in pursuing a career in planning.

What you'll bring

  • Currently enrolled in a Town Planning or Urban and Regional Planning course at an Australian University or the ability to enrol by 30 June 2024

Salary: You will be paid in accordance with the Traineeship pay scale as outlined in the Local Government (State) Award 2023 plus superannuation.

Location: This position will be based at our Administration Centre in Yalawanyi Ganya at 2 Biripi Way, Taree. You may also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.

Tenure: Full-time, fixed term for the duration of an eligible planning course.
