Our mission is to design and manufacture mission-critical Defence Solutions from Australia for the Asia-Pacific, focused on weaponization and precision motion control.

Due to an exciting new project, we have an opportunity within our team for 2 x Supplier Development Engineers (Electrical and Mechanical) for a 3 year fixed terms contract.

Summary of Job:

The key responsibility of the Supplier Development Engineer (SDE) is to interface with Suppliers and build workable relationships considering business needs, risk management, supplier quality and engineering requirements. They will support supplier risk management of critical suppliers, Supplier Development and performance monitoring and collaborate with suppliers to improve their performance.  This role will also support estimating for proposal activity and design to cost (DTC) saving projects. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and on-board suppliers in line with Strategic and Tactical requirements.
  • Identify Gaps in Supply Chain and develop plans and identify supplier(s) to close said gaps. 
  • Create mission success plans for critical suppliers.   Responsible for supplier improvement plans.
  • Work with the team on RCCA (Root Cause Corrective Action) for improving supplier performance.
  • Support efforts in estimating for DTC programs and support of proposal activities.
  • Read, evaluate, and interpret blueprints for parts, and support suppliers with technical issues.
  • Work closely with team on supplier NCRs (Non-Conformance Report) and RCCA (Root Cause Corrective Action) 
  • Travel to supplier’s locations to help assess supplier’s capabilities, and monitor improvement plans, as and when required.
  • Set up and verify the cross reference of unit/price targets from completed estimates at completion and new sales/orders, to establish buyer price targets.
  • Become familiar with and adhere to the purchasing policies and procedures. 

Qualifications / experience 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field (such as Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical engineering or Mechatronics or equivalent experience)  
  • 5 years of progressive experience (usually post-education) in the field of Manufacturing, and/or Quality, Supply Chain and/or Business.
  • Proven general capabilities in procurement practices, Supplier Development and/or customer support.
  • Proven specific capabilities in understanding and communicating the technical aspects of the goods and services procured.
  • Desirable qualifications would include:  
    • Black Belt and/or Six Sigma certified, Lean Certification, Supply Chain Management.                    
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, material specifications, and secondary operations.
  • Knowledge of the supply base, current supplier performance and quality requirements.
  • Defence industry experience (advantageous).
  • QMS Experience in a regulated environment such as EN9100 or ISO9001

Other: 

  • Current or previously held Australian security clearance or eligible to obtain security clearance
  • Ability to be able to manage and handle ITAR requirements.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent oral and written communication 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail 
  • High levels of motivation and willingness to learn 

Location: Heatherton (Melbourne office)

Travel: interstate travel to meet key suppliers on a regular cadence / Occasional overseas travel required
