About the Service
Located in the beautiful coastal regional city of Coffs Harbour surrounded by a host of stunning beaches and tranquil rainforests, this youth residential alcohol and other drug service provides therapeutic rehabilitation and withdrawal support to young people aged 13 – 18 years.
This youth residential rehab provides an 8-bed recovery service, including 2 withdrawal beds providing a safe environment to withdraw from alcohol and/or other drugs. The12 week program Is structured to include therapeutic interventions, psycho-education, relapse prevention, case management, cultural connection activities, life skills and aftercare support.

Your opportunity
To perform the duties of this role, it is essential that the person is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti Discrimination Act 1991.
We are currently recruiting for a part-time Support Worker to join our team, working 19 hours per week.
As a Support worker, you will assist in establishing and maintaining a culturally appropriate and secure healing program that is sensitive to the specific cultural, social, and spiritual aspirations of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people accessing the service.
What does this mean?
Well, you’ll help to keep young people emotionally safe while supporting and monitoring activities of the program. You’ll assist with medications, support guided meditations, and provide general help and support to clients during the day.
This is a role that has a big impact. You will complement the treatment and delivery of a range of intensive and tailored support and evidence-based interventions that will focus on alcohol and other drug use, psychosocial issues and risks connected with the young person’s offending behaviour.
You’ll also:
Assist the clinical team to maintain a culturally appropriate and secure program that is sensitive to the specific cultural, social, and ensure the community is safe and positive and that the program timetable is being followed.
Work with residents at an individual and group level to assist them to address their substance use and the issues associated.
Engage with families and other individuals or agencies to develop a strong post-treatment support network.
Maintain an awareness of community functioning and act to resolve community concerns and/or conflict.
Co-ordinate and arrange daily catering requirements including supported resident cooking, cleaning up and supported chores.
Maintain strict confidentiality and behave appropriately and consistently with all residents.
The hourly rate of pay is $36.00 – $38.60 per hour plus packaging and super, dependent on skills, experience and qualifications.
What you’ll bring
To succeed in this role, there are some essentials you’ll need:
Demonstrated ability to maintain empathy and compassion when working with young people experiencing symptoms and behaviours associated with AOD use, mental health problems, experience of trauma, or cognitive impairment, or a combination of these.
Understanding of the cultural and historical issues that impact on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Capacity to engage with, assess and case manage persons with alcohol or drug dependence and related problems.
Experience in facilitating group work.
Willingness to work in a team to identify and address problems.
A valid Working with Children Check (NSW).
While not essential, we’d also love you to have:
Tertiary qualification in relevant field.
Current Australian (issued) Driver’s Licence.
