Support Worker
Recovery Supports Australia is a NDIS provider of psychosocial recovery coaching which provides one-on-one support coordination and coaching for NDIS participants with mental illness. Participants are assisted by breaking down their goals and supported to achieve them to increase capacity and functioning and achieve a more joyous and fulfilled life.
TIME FRACTION: Casual
CONTRACTED HOURS: Flexible in negotiation with participants

BRIEF POSITION OVERVIEW:
The role of the Disability Support Worker is to work with participants providing them with high-quality support and care that addresses individual needs and enhances their independence, abilities, aspirations and community participation.
Support workers will enhance a participant’s choice and control over their supports, while working collaboratively with participants, families, and other supports.
Work with clients to achieve their goals set out in their NDIS plan, return to a place of residence and a meaningful life supporting them through a staged approach to recovery:
- Strengths identification and individual recovery plan development.
- Role modelling activities of daily living skills and capacity development.
- Engagement and maintenance of natural supports.
- On-going self-management support.
- Liaise with the Support Coordinator when transitioning clients to new services. Assist clients with their individual recovery plan in a range of areas including:
- Understanding and managing their safety and wellbeing on a daily basis.
- Developing and supporting daily living skills, budgeting and self care activities.
- Supporting crisis and incident management.
- Physical health and medication administration.
- Personal care tasks where required.
- Capacity building tasks including housekeeping, shopping, meal preparation and cooking, routine development, social skills development and support for medical appointments.
- Work with clients to enable participation in the service delivery and design through co-design, co-production, feedback and consultation opportunities.Work equitably with participants with respect to each individual’s right to dignity, privacy, and independence
- Promote and advocate for physical health as well as mental health in the recovery of people with severe mental illness
- Provide information to participants and advocates when necessary to facilitate access to community services and facilities
- Link participants with service options corresponding with their NDIS Plan support items and funding
- Compliance with Recovery Supports Australia’s values, code of conduct, policies and procedures and relevant government legislation and standards where relevant
- Promote a positive safety culture by contributing to health and safety consultation and communication. Promptly respond to and report health and safety hazards, incidents and near misses to line managers.
- Complete administration tasks, including entering accurate case notes in a timely manner and maintaining files and statistics as directed

Commitment and a genuine desire to support people with disability live their best life through the principles of active support, individuality, inclusion, choice and control.
- Ability to perform duties while respecting confidentiality and dignity of individuals
- Demonstrated ability to engage with participants to build a trusting relationship that motivates and builds capacity to problem solve, review progress, reflect and learn, and provide elicit feedback
- Demonstrated ability to empathise with people with a disability and communicate with their families/carers about support requirements, recreation opportunities and individual participation.
- Demonstrated work experience as a disability Support Worker.
- Demonstrated understanding of psychosocial disability and the episodic nature of mental illness
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills including effectiveness in written and verbal communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
REQUIREMENTS
Certificate 3 in disability (Applicants without this but with relevant work or lived experience will be considered)
- Highly regarded qualifications are: A tertiary qualification in Peer Work or Mental Health (minimum of certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or Certificate IV in Mental Health) or equivalent training; tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Occupational Therapist, Counselling is preferred
- Current Victorian Driver’s License and ability to undertake travel as required
- Suitable Vehicle – A roadworthy vehicle with comprehensive insurance is recommended. The vehicle must be capable of transporting multiple passengers in a safe manner.
- Current First Aid and CPR credential
- Current Police and Working With Children Checks
- NDIS Worker Check
- Evidence of complete Covid 19 vaccination
- Desirable:
- Knowledge and prior experience in delivery services under the National Disability Insurance Scheme
