Ability Assist has several vacancies available for candidates who are willing to undertake short shifts (approximately 3-6 hours in length) within both our Child Protection and NDIS (Disability) services. Both roles require different qualifications, skills and experienced, which are outlined below.
Depending on the needs of the client, short shifts may include school drop-offs and pick-ups, transporting clients to medical appointments, attending sporting events, supporting clients to participate in a range of activities based on their hobbies, interests, and goals, assisting with the preparation of meals, undertaking domestic duties and personal care duties etc.
The shifts will normally be based in the North and Western suburbs of Melbourne. The days and hours will vary based on the needs of the client. The minimum hours that will be required per shift is normally 3 hours, whilst other shifts may be for 4, 5 or 6 hours for example.

- Supporting and engaging with clients who may have complex needs and/or behaviours of concern.
- Attending to personal care, domestic duties including preparing meals and cleaning as required.
- Supporting and encouraging clients to participate in a range of day-to-day activities based on their hobbies, interests and goals set out in their Support Plans.
- Transporting clients to and from a range of different activities and services etc.
- Flexibility to work short shifts.
- Experience working with clients with complex needs and behaviours of concern.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with clients and various stakeholders.
- Must be compassionate, considerate, empathetic, and sensitive to the needs of the client.
- Ability to provide emotional support and capable of building trust and rapport with clients.
- Strong problem solving and decision-making skills with the ability to work well under pressure.
Working with Child Protection Clients
- Certificate IV in Child, Youth & Family Intervention, or an equivalent qualification, in addition to the completion of the mandatory units for residential care workers.
Working with NDIS Clients (Disability)
- Certificate IV in Disability or equivalent.
Both roles will also require the candidate to have:
- Full Victorian Drivers’ Licence.
- Employee Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain).
- NDIS Worker Screening check (or willingness to obtain).
- First Aid and CPR Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to safely transport clients. Use of personal vehicle may be required (km’s reimbursed).
- Comprehensive Car Insurance.
