The Role:
The Systems Engineer and Assurance Manager (SESA), reporting to the Head of Systems Engineering and Safety Assurance, is a hands-on role based in Perth that is crucial for the successful delivery of complex and high-risk rail projects.
This position requires strong collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement robust engineering and safety assurance processes.
The SESA Manager ensures compliance with industry standards, conducts thorough risk assessments, and devises effective mitigation strategies. By fostering strong multidisciplinary collaboration, the SESA manager supports the growth and innovation of the team, ensuring the seamless integration and reliability of systems in our most challenging projects.
Core Responsibilities:
- Responsible for leading the Systems Engineeringand Assurance team in Perth Western Australia for Rail Systems Engineering.
- Providing leadership for a broad project portfolio and lead the SESA activities for integrated project delivery teams.
- Foster relationships with consultants in state and form an active role with the Pre-contracts and work winning teams.
- Create, review and approve project plans and specification requirements from an assurance perspective to mitigate risk.
- Provide strategic input to the SESA leadership team allowing for progressive sustainable growth to occur.
- The SESA Manager, while responsible for managing the team, they will also be responsible for the creation of SESA documents as needed and required by the projects in support of their team.
- Provide an approach to the delivery of SESA that is concise and meets the project objectives while recognising the need to efficiently deliver the associated project.
- Tender appropriate works to support the growth of the RSE and IPD business in WA.
- Ensure that designs are optimised to minimise overall cost and assess product cost in relation to project budgets during the design process.
- Liaise with both internal and external stakeholders and manager associated expectations and work priorities.
- Manager and support technical assurance activities including system review and regulatory compliance.
- Be a visible and active leader across the organisation, building cohesion and impactful ways of working.
- Drive collaboration, accountability, and transparency in team behaviour.
About You:
- Engineering or related qualifications.
- 12+ years’ experience post degree completion.
- 10+ years relevant experience in leading engineering teams.
- Project Management and its application within a construction organisation and understand the importance and requirement to complete projects to time, budget and quality parameters.
- Leadership skills will also be key as will a passion for customer focused outcomes, driving safety, quality and sustainability, along with the ability to demonstrate strong communication skills, and a collaborative nature. Both are key to engaging with multiple internal, external and client stakeholder groups.
- Strong understanding of all aspects of project delivery, including contractual structures and management.
- Experience with end end delivery of large infrastructure projects including operator involvement and whole-of-life considerations through design and delivery into operations.
- High level of understanding of Systems Engineering process.
- High level understanding of rail system safety assurance including process to SFAIRP and development of safety cases.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
- Mature, proactive, resourceful, hands-on with good initiatives and ability to leverage organisational resources.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and meticulous.
- Able to work fast under pressure and willing to make tough decisions.
