Cross River Rail will transform the way we travel to, from and through Brisbane in the future. It will be a catalyst for 10 years of wider rail transformation across the whole of South East Queensland and it is already playing a key role in how we prepare for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Cross River Rail is a new 10.2km rail line including 5.9km of twin tunnels running under the Brisbane River and CBD. It includes the delivery of four new underground stations, two new above-ground stations, accessibility rebuilds for six stations, the construction of three new stations on the Gold Coast, and the introduction of a new world-class ‘ETCS' signalling system.

About the Role

Lead the Systems Engineering team to oversee the delivery of the Systems Engineering Program for the Cross River Rail Project where activities are primarily performed by our contracting delivery partners, suppliers and key interfacing parties such as the Next Generation Rolling Stock Project.

The role requires extensive stakeholder management and collaboration with external stakeholders and internal project teams to ensure the execution of Systems Engineering activities in alignment with project obligations to achieve integrated delivery within set timelines. You will draw upon your rich experience in rail Systems Engineering on major projects to provide expert advice and guidance to stakeholders to support decision making and the application of industry best practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage and mentor the Systems Engineering team including providing development opportunities and performance management.
  • Contribute to the development and review of technical /engineering requirements, specifications and Systems Engineering solutions to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and safety regulations.
  • Participate in review meetings with project stakeholders, facilitating the understanding and application of Systems Assurance.
  • Report on technical system engineering reviews, ensuring fulfillment of entry and exit criteria.
  • Prepare briefing notes and position papers to support decision-making processes.
  • Identify areas for process improvement and contribute to the project's operating model enhancement.

About You:

  • Extensive rail Systems Engineering knowledge and experience including an understanding of the rail regulatory, assurance and acceptance environment, and engineering contract structures on major projects.
  • Proficiency in application of Systems Engineering as defined in relevant standards and handbooks (e.g., ISO 15288, SEI standards, INCOSE, EN50126, etc).
  • Experience with Systems Engineering software tools (e.g., Requirements Management, Configuration Management).
  • Previous experience leading and mentoring a Systems Engineering team in a similar project delivery context.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in engineering. Certification in Systems Engineering and/ or Registration in engineering (RPEQ) is desirable.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
