Position Summary
Tangentyere Council Aboriginal Corporation (TCAC) is a community controlled Public Benevolent Institution delivering human services and social enterprise activities for the benefit of Aboriginal people from the Alice Springs Town Camps, urban Alice Springs, and Central Australia.
The Youth and Community Safety (YCS) Division brings together a range of programs that support Aboriginal children, youth, and the community to improve safety, education, health, and wellbeing outcomes. The Division includes Brown Street Youth Service, Town Camp Youth HUBs, Youth Outreach Service, Patrols, Looking After the Kids (LATK), and Youth Case Management Service.
Working closely with the YCS Manager and the Youth & Community Safety Coordinator, the Senior Practitioner is responsible for supervision and quality management of the Youth Case Management Service. The service is responsible for some key priorities within the YCS division. It provides wrap-around responses to young people accessing YCS services, including restorative justice interventions where young people are involved in incidents or a suspension. It identifies, assesses, and refers as appropriate for specialist needs. And it provides Case Coordination support to identified young people working with multiple tertiary services. Alongside this work, Case Managers provide Social and Emotional Wellbeing activities up to two evenings per week at activity programs. The Case Management Service works closely with our LATK Outreach Workers, who do evening follow-up and outreach as identified by the Case Management team. The Senior Practitioner is responsible for supervision of up to four Youth Case Managers.
The successful candidate will have previous experience leading or managing other staff and a degree in a relevant discipline - social work preferred. Demonstrated understanding of trauma informed and strengths-based practices. They will work in a culturally safe manner and have demonstrated skills in assessing and engaging at-risk young people and families. The Senior Practitioner role will be pivotal in integrating the work of stakeholders around young people through previous experience in case coordination, referral, information sharing (consistent with legislative requirements), joint planning and co-work as required. Work in the evening until 7pm required two nights per week.
As part of your role, you will be working with children, people with a disability and people who are vulnerable. It is your obligation to always ensure their safety and report any concerns in line with our duty of care obligations. We have zero tolerance when it comes to abuse of any kind and will take disciplinary action, including and up to termination of employment, should we determine that abuse has taken place or there has been a failure to report any suspected or alleged abuse.
Responsibilities
• Lead the Youth Case Management Service through day-to-day provision of service delivery inclusive of case plans and review, practice quality improvement and resource management.
• Lead, support, coach, and mentor Youth Case Managers inclusive of supervision to enable them to deliver quality services including contributing towards building the capacity of local Indigenous staff.
• Establish and maintain effective referral pathways to other stakeholders working with young people.
• With support from the YCS Coordinator, assessment, and intake of referrals to the Youth Case Management service including keep quality client records and collect data as required.
• Work with the YCS Leadership team to plan, deliver and review services to ensure they reflect and respond to the needs of young people.
• Work as part of the Alice Springs youth service system to provide responsive, proactive, and high-quality services that contribute to the wellbeing of young people.
• Assist with achieving quality management objectives across the organisation.
• Assist with achieving safeguarding objectives across the organisation.
• Assist with achieving compliance objectives across the organisation.

Qualifications and Selection Criteria
Required
• Completed tertiary studies in Social Work, Youth Work, or other relevant degree.
• Demonstrated ability to undertake holistic assessments for vulnerable youth and families.
• Experience in leading teams and providing staff and case directive supervision.
• Demonstrated ability to engage with vulnerable and at-risk young people, their families and community.
• A sound understanding of contemporary psycho-social theories and practices including trauma, strengths-based based practice, and resilience.
• High level computer literacy and report writing skills.
• Current NT Drivers Licence, NT Working with Children (Ochre) Card, satisfactory Police Check, and proof of full (3) vaccination against COVID-19.
Desired
• Current First Aid Certificate, or ability and willingness to attain.
• A demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal culture as well as a broad range of contemporary issues affecting Central Australian Aboriginal people.
