Tax Manager - Sydney

We are an Australian listed software business and our Tax Strategy & Advisory team is responsible for supporting the business to grow. They are at the front end of a number of key business decisions and are often the ones responsible for driving business change. They have a number of really exciting and value-add projects that require another dedicated team member to come on board to help with.

We are seeking a global payroll Tax Manager to join the business. You will initially be responsible for ensuring compliance with payroll laws, regulations and policies globally and establishing standardized and streamlined payroll setups to support the company's global expansion initiatives. Your responsibilities will also extend to indirect tax and you will own and drive key projects that have a real impact on the business.

You are a confident and articulate individual who understands payroll tax concepts. You have at least 5 years payroll tax experience gained within a professional services firm, inhouse company or have gained experience working in the Government sector.

You will have an accounting, finance, business or tax background, with in-depth knowledge of payroll procedures, tax legislation, accounting practices, and audit requirements. This is specialized role with a high degree of responsibility so you will have experience managing such roles.

Having worked within a software company would be seen as desirable, but not essential.

You will be a team player who possesses the ability to communicate complicated tax information to non-tax people in an easy to understand way, comfortable working in a fast paced environment and can work independently and move projects forward, but know when to seek guidance and advice from team members.

You will also have:

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify compliance risks, conduct audits, and implement effective solutions.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal teams, external partners, and senior management.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet tight deadlines, and adapt quickly to evolving payroll compliance requirements.
• Experience in working with third-party payroll vendors and managing vendor relationships.
• Familiarity with payroll systems, software, and technology used to manage global payroll operations.
• Experience in other areas of tax, including indirect tax.

Key areas of responsibility include:

• Managing payroll tax related projects for the business
• Coordinate and manage state payroll tax audits
• Technology implementation and enablement for payroll tax and other taxes
• Review, coordination and assistance with global payroll tax compliance
• Overseeing external advisor activity in relation to payroll tax
• Reviewing changes in payroll tax landscape and making recommendations to the business
• Working with leadership to develop and implement a global payroll strategy that aligns with business objectives and ensures compliance across the organization.
• Assisting the wider team to drive value-add projects across indirect tax
