Your new role:
The Teacher Assistant (EAL/D) works to support the development of a school community where all are respected and opportunities for students’ development and progress are maximised, thus enabling all students to experience success in the school environment.
The Teacher Assistant (EAL/D) facilitates explicit connections between learning from everyday classroom teaching and structured interventions.
The Teacher Assistant is able to take some administrative pressure off the classroom teacher and is uniquely placed to reach out to EAL/D students to make sure they are accessing the learning provided by the teacher.
The working relationship between teachers and the Teacher Assistant is highly valued and very important to student progress.
Selection criteria:
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the ideals of Catholic Education
- Current Working with Children Check and National Criminal Police History Check
- Proficient literacy and numeracy skills
- Minimum CERT III/IV Learning Support or working towards this qualification
Knowledge, Skills and Responsibilities
- Maintain confidentiality
- Build and develop positive relationships with teachers, students and families
- Maintain a working knowledge of current best practice in inclusive education
- Actively participate in professional learning opportunities provided by the School and or CEDWW including completion of all mandated courses for risk, WHS, Safeguarding, Positive Workplace Culture, etc
- Maintain a working knowledge of current legislation as it relates to the needs of students, especially students with diverse learning needs and/or disability
- Maintain a clear working knowledge and application of School and CEDWW policies and procedures
Additional Information
- A Health Care allowance will be paid pro rata as per a student’s Health Care Plan.
- A First Aid Allowance will be paid pro rata as per a student’s Medical plan eg: Diabetes plan.
