This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 3, 2024

Kalgoorlie Boulder Community High School (CHS) is seeking a design and Technology Teacher to join their high quality regional school.

Teachers and School Administrators employed at Kalgoorlie-Boulder Community High School in 2024 are eligible to receive an Attraction and Retention Incentive of $10,000 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment. 

The ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school.

About the Role

This role will suit someone who is highly motivated, relationship-focused, and passionate about creating exciting, culturally responsive learning experiences to ignite a desire to learn in students.

The Ideal Teacher

The successful applicant should be a dedicated and highly motivated educator with an excellent knowledge of the Western Australian Curriculum. You will ideally be able to deliver content in an engaging manner and be a highly effective team member. As a reflective practitioner, you will possess effective data literacy and a capacity to modify your practice to meet identified student needs. The capacity to engage in the development and implementation of innovative classroom practices, including integration of information technology into the curriculum is highly desirable.

The successful applicant should have the ability to work collaboratively to plan and implement effective teaching and learning plans. You will ideally provide excellence in creating and maintaining a supportive and safe learning environment and provide educational opportunities and activities which enable students to achieve their highest potential.

In the first instance, only applicants with teaching qualifications will be considered. Where there are no suitable applicants with teaching qualifications, applicants without teaching qualifications may be considered.

We will also consider an internal secondment opportunity for permanent teachers in other locations within the Department of Education who would like to work at our school for up to three years and retain their substantive position. Our School

Kalgoorlie-Boulder CHS was opened in 2006 and proudly offers secondary courses from Years 7 to 10. The school prides itself on an enrolment of over 800 students from a diverse range of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, who all contribute to a vibrant and collaborative school culture.

The school's committed student services team ensure excellent pastoral care and monitoring of students, with a dedicated student services coordinator and officer working closely with each year group. Dynamic teaching staff offer engaging delivery of both main curriculum areas and a diverse range of subjects and programs catering for students with a variety of interests and needs.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
