Canning College is seeking to establish a pool of Teacher - English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EALD) for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2025. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year, up to the end of Term 2, 2025.

Suitable candidates should be expert teachers who possess strong curriculum knowledge of one or more of Year 11 and Year 12 ATAR EALD, General EALD, and the English Language and Australian Cultural Studies (ELACS) courses. They will display the passion, professional knowledge and experience to develop and deliver high quality programs and high impact teaching strategies that engage young adult learners and motivate students to succeed with their studies toward university entry.

Suitable candidates should display highly effective communication skills and strong ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with students from a broad range of nationalities and cultural backgrounds. They should be able to inspire and support students achieve their full learning potential by developing students’ academic capabilities within an inclusive and positive classroom learning environment.

Canning College has been preparing students to achieve entry into Australia’s leading universities since 1982. As a specialist international education institution, it has established a strong reputation for providing local and overseas students with the personal and academic development and pathways required to succeed in tertiary studies.

In the five years from 2019, the College’s expert staff focused exclusively on providing pathway-to-university programs for international students. In 2024, while continuing Canning College’s focus on international students, the College resumed the enrolment of local (domestic) students seeking entry to university primarily through WA Certificate of Education ATAR courses.

Flexible entry points into Canning College’s academic pathway programs allow international students to start studying in January, April and mid-year, which gives them the opportunity to enter university degree courses sooner. College staff are experienced in providing care, support and academic guidance to students to help them prepare better for the rigours of tertiary studies.

Local and international students may enrol in Canning College’s Year 10 program, and Year 11 and Year 12 WACE ATAR programs. International students can also seek to complete the Certificate IV in University Access Program, Diploma of Commerce, and the Western Australian Universities’ Foundation Program (WAUFP). The WAUFP is also available to domestic students who have completed fewer than two years of their secondary school education in Australia.

While Canning College has a special relationship with the universities of Perth, College graduates can enrol at all universities across Australia and at many universities across the world. Canning graduates have studied at universities in Australia, England, Ireland, America, Canada, Germany, New Zealand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Thailand, Korea and Singapore.

Canning College students pursue a wide range of degree courses including engineering, medicine, physiotherapy, education, law, pharmacy, nursing and computing.

ELIGIBILITY

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
