Job description

Advertised Vacancy Number: IPS/TCH886205

This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 2, 2024

Governor Stirling Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Teacher – Health and Physical Education (HPE) to join their team. A key aspect of this role is coordinating and leading our Endorsed Netball Program. As such, it is desirable that the successful applicant has, or is willing to work towards, their Advanced Coaching Accreditation through Netball Australia.

Applicants should have an understanding of the coaching and umpiring skills required to lead an elite netball program. A Certificate IV in Training and Assessing and a Certificate II in Sport and Recreation are desirable, although applicants without these qualifications are still encouraged to apply.

We encourage the use of innovative and creative teaching strategies, incorporating the ability to differentiate the curriculum according to student need. We are interested in applicants who have the ability to reflect on the effectiveness of their teaching, and who work in a collaborative way with other staff to improve their practice through peer observation, performance management, and Professional Learning Communities. Governor Stirling SHS has an Instructional Framework, and the HPE Learning Area has developed instructional model support documents teachers are utilising in their daily practice.

Situated on the banks of the Swan River in Woodbridge, Governor Stirling SHS was re-opened in 2013 with state-of-the-art facilities, offering the Department of Education Gifted and Talented Academic Program, a range of academic and Vocational Education Training programs and Approved Specialist Programs in Engineering, Arts Media and AFL Football (both male and female), along with a school-endorsed Netball program. Governor Stirling SHS prepares students for life after high school with many options for academic and vocational pathways.

Our students enjoy a positive and culturally inclusive learning environment based on the explicit teaching of our school values. We hold high expectations for all of our students, and believe in an educational experience that promotes respect, hard work and achievement where every child is encouraged to become a person of honour and integrity. The successful applicant will uphold and promote these values and work collaboratively with all staff to ensure the realisation of our whole-school vision.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):

  • Professional knowledge;
  • Professional practice; and
  • Professional engagement.

Applications will be assessed against these domains. The business needs of the school may also be considered. It is therefore recommended that you consider all information contained in the advertisement and any other related information before applying for the vacancy.

Applicants currently completing the Department of Education Leap program (formerly known as the Switch program) can apply for vacancies using their current or Leap qualification – even if they have not completed the program at the time of applying. Applicants may be appointed to a vacancy based on the qualification being completed via the Leap program.

The Department is an equal opportunity employer and encourages people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and persons from culturally diverse backgrounds to apply.
