This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 3, 2024

Girrawheen Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint a hardworking and motivated Mathematics Teacher to join their friendly team.

The successful applicant will ideally have the capacity to deliver engaging programs that are relevant to our students' needs. It is important that the successful applicant be able to create a learning environment that is differentiated, challenging, caring, and caters for the range of needs so all students may achieve and progress. As a Quality Teaching Strategy Lead School, the successful candidate would be expected to be familiar with the Teaching for Impact framework and have an understanding of what effective teachers believe, know, and do to enable students to succeed. The successful applicant will ideally have the necessary knowledge, skills, and understanding to prepare students for NAPLAN and OLNA. Candidates who have a capacity to teach ATAR will be highly regarded. A strong focus and understanding of Information Communications Technology (ICT) is desirable. 

You will ideally support the implementation of the school business plan, work and teach in a team environment, and be committed to whole school approaches and initiatives. The successful applicant should be able to build and maintain a positive learning environment therefore effective classroom management is critical to this role.

Our School's median ATAR score consistently performs significantly higher than scores achieved by like-schools. We work with a whole school approach towards improving numeracy and literacy levels amongst our students.

Girrawheen SHS teaching staff includes the 2021 WA Premier's Secondary Teacher of the Year, Charan Pabla, who works within the Science learning area.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):

  • Professional knowledge;
  • Professional practice; and
  • Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
