This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 3, 2024

Byford Secondary College (SC) is seeking to appoint a highly motivated and proactive Science Teacher to join our team.

We are seeking a like-minded teacher who ideally has a passion for teaching secondary students and a desire to impart their skills and knowledge across our college.

The successful applicant should be an active contributor to the Science learning area and be reflective in their practice to support professional growth and improve educational outcomes for students. You should have a sound understanding of the Science curriculum and senior school Science courses. Knowledge and the ability to use learning strategies that successfully engage students in science will be highly regarded.

The successful applicant will ideally be a teacher who believes in all young people have the capacity to learn. The ideal applicant should believe in all young people capacity to learn and have the ability to develop and deliver engaging Science learning programs.

The ability to differentiate curriculum and implement innovative approaches to improve outcomes for both high and low achieving students is a key element to this position. The desirable applicant will build positive relationships with students and be passionate about creating positive futures for students, and utilise evidence based decision making skills within their practices.

Byford SC is a newer school in Perth’s southern suburbs. We have first class facilities to support high quality teaching and learning programs in our college. Located approximately 30 kilometres from the Perth CBD, our College caters for 1500 students in Years 7 through to 12. We offer a unique setting to many other metropolitan schools, with a blend of urban and rural students; this creates a vibrant mix of students and staff within the college community.

Our school’s planning and improvement is based on the Fogarty Edvance program, which is supported and promoted by all leaders across our college. In 2024 we will also embark on a pilot teacher Intern program, ITE-EXTEND with Murdoch University where we will provide selected teachers with the opportunity to collaborate with the university to engage and support high quality graduates in long term internships at the College.

Our school motto, Aspire to Excellence, clearly articulates our vision of being the secondary school of choice for the local community providing a comprehensive suite of subjects from Years 7 through 12. The College offers an academic extension program for students by selection, in partnership with the University of Western Australia. This ‘Aspire’ program provides these students with access to the university's staff and facilities to enhance their learning experience.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):

  • Professional knowledge;
  • Professional practice; and
  • Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
