This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 3, 2024

Perth Modern School are seeking to appoint an innovative science teacher, ideally with experience in teaching Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) Physics, and with ability to differentiate for academically gifted students in Year 7 to Year 10. Ideally, the successful applicant will be someone who is student focused with strong interpersonal skills and able to work collaboratively in a team environment. It is desirable for applicants to hold a major qualification in their nominated domain. Our curriculum is differentiated based on acceleration, extension and enrichment to challenge all students. The successful applicant will be joining a progressive and enthusiastic team of teachers who are engaged in implementing a whole school gifted and talented approach as a lead school for the Department’s Quality Teaching Strategy, Teaching for Impact.

Our teachers are committed to supporting the social and emotional development of gifted students through our Advocacy Program. We have adopted a comprehensive whole-school approach to wellbeing, recognising the importance of a shared language and collective effort. This approach aims to create a culture where students, staff and the wider school community thrive in all aspects of their lives. To achieve our vision of fostering wellbeing, we have implemented the Thriving Minds program, which integrates the principles of positive psychology, neuroscience and evidence-based pedagogy. 

Perth Modern School is Western Australia's only fully academically selective school for gifted students in Year 7 to Year 12, centrally located in Subiaco with free onsite parking.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

Employees will be required to:

  • Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
  • Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment.
  • Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
  • Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
  • Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
