Nambucca Heads High School (enrolment 326 students) is a comprehensive High School located on the traditional lands of the Gumbaynggirr people on the mid north coast of NSW. Aboriginal students make up 31% of the student population. The Support Unit has 4 Multicategorical classes, and two IO/IS classes. There is emphasis on evidence- based teaching and learning practices with explicit data use. Our students are inspired to excel in academic, sporting, extra-curricular and cultural learning, with outstanding results. There is strong focus on using technology in the classroom and a mandate to improve literacy and numeracy across the school. The staff is a mix of very experienced and some beginning teachers and non-teaching staff. The school has well-appointed buildings and facilities. A program of Berry Street training for all staff has started, with the last module due for completion day 1 2025. The school continues to build strong community relationships and partnerships with parents and carers.
Selection Criteria
Approval to teach Special Education and/or experience teaching students with Autism, mild, moderate, and severe intellectual disabilities.
Capacity to collaborate with all stakeholders to develop, deliver and assess quality teaching programs and individual learning programs using both life skills and regular outcomes.
Capacity to support the school Literacy priority including case management of students to build literacy capacity.
Demonstrated capacity to implement effective student wellbeing strategies which promote positive and safe learning environments with a willingness to commit to trauma informed practice and understanding of the goals of the NSW Aboriginal Education Policy.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
