Position Information 

Fernhill School is a school for specific purposes that caters for 131 students K-12 across 20 classes. All our students have a moderate or severe intellectual disability, and many have concurrent disabilities. 31% come from a language background other than English, and 13% identify as Aboriginal. Fernhill School is strongly focused on communication and regulation, and all staff are committed to quality teaching and learning across the curriculum. The school highly values strong relationships with families, the community and other agencies. Specific Selection Criteria 

Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, autism, physical disabilities, and other complex needs such as behaviour disorders, mental health, complex health care needs and sensory impairments K-12.

Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive partnerships with families, support staff and colleagues.

Ability to effectively differentiate curriculum and implement strategies and learning programs to meet the communication, sensory, social and behavioural needs of students.

Well-developed skills and strategies for positively influencing student wellbeing that includes an awareness of the Department's Aboriginal education policies and the ability to engage Aboriginal students to enhance their educational outcomes.

  
Conditions 

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
