Purpose of the Position
The Team Leader, Accounting Services position ensures the effective management and oversight of the organisation's financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, corporate credit cards, and banking transactions. This role is critical in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial data, preparing necessary financial journals, and ensuring compliance with financial procedures. Additionally, the position assists in the preparation of comprehensive financial reports, and contributes to the financial audit process, all aimed at sustaining the financial health and transparency of the organisation.
Duties
- Manage the day-to-day functions of accounts payable, accounts receivable, corporate credit cards and banking to ensure an effective and efficient service in accordance with Institute financial procedures.
- Manage the accuracy and integrity of financial transactions, including accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Supervise and provide effective leadership to the team, including mentoring, coaching, and providing advice on procedures/work methods.
- Manage end of month and end of year processing including accruals and reconciliations.
- Review, update and implement financial accounting policies, procedures and practices to ensure they are relevant and accurate.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with Internal and external stakeholders to inform good financial practice and compliance.
- Contribute to requirements for the financial audit process
- Other duties within the range of skills normally associated with this classification as directed.
- Proven experience in leading financial management activities and the ability to manage timely and efficient payment and invoicing processes in a complex environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in culturally diverse teams within the social, political, and cultural environments of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, communities, and organisations.
- Highly effective interpersonal skills including proficient written and oral communication which can be adapted to meet the needs of people from all educational levels.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritise work and meet competing demands, delivering quality outcomes in a high-pressured work environment with a strong focus on business performance and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise staff, set priorities, monitor workflows and manage performance within a high demand service environment.
- Understanding of Work Health and Safety principles and practices, and ability to comply with Institute WHS Policies and Procedures.
- Full membership of a professional accounting body, such as CPA or Chartered Accountants in Australia or working towards one.
- Proven working experience in the Government Accounting System (GAS) or similar environment in particular accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit card management and general ledger modules (NTG Pay, AR Wizard, REPS, Expense 8).
- Ability to quickly acquire knowledge of the Institute’s structure, functions and objectives.
