Link-Up (NSW) Aboriginal Corporation (Link-Up) assists all eligible Aboriginal people who have been directly affected by past government policies; being separated from their families and culture through forced removal; being fostered, adopted or raised in institutions. Link-Up supports the healing journeys of those removed delivering professional, culturally sensitive and confidential research, reunions and Social, Emotional and Wellbeing services.
The Team leader is responsible for the Family Link Program and services, which are designed to assist Aboriginal families, children and young persons who are at risk of entering, or who are currently within Out Of Home Care Services to reunite with their families, community and kin.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- To work collaboratively with the Department of Community and Justice (DCJ) to achieve safe and culturally appropriate placements of children and young people in O.O.H.C.
- Responsible for the management of staff in their team.
- Responsible for liaising with DCJ, OOHC, NGO workers and their stakeholders.
- Manage workflow within the team environment to ensure client caseloads are managed appropriately and effectively and coordinate the day to day activities relevant to each program.
- Assist with phone/email inquiries and make referral when required.
- Provide client case management plans.
- Prepare and maintain client files.
- Provide ongoing training and assistance.
- Provide WARM referrals for clients to appropriate services.
- Work with other service providers to enhance client outcomes.
- Engage in the regular auditing of client files both hard copy and computer.
- Use the National Foxtrot database to keep up to date client files.
- Engage with Aboriginal, Torres Strait and non-Indigenous communities and other service providers.
Essential Criteria
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Stolen Generation and the impact of past Government policies on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia.
- Must be able to work 35 hours per week. (currently 3 days in the office & 2 days at home).
- Demonstrated research skills.
- High level verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to coordinate varied and conflicting demands to agreed standards and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office and data base applications.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team including working with people from culturally diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to prepare clear and accurate written work and demonstrated understanding of the requirements to follow strict reporting criteria.
- Previous experience in supervision/management of staff.
Desirable Criteria
- Tertiary qualifications in: Counselling, Social Work, Youth Work, Mental Health, Indigenous Studies or minimum 3-5 years experience within Social Services or related areas.
- Willingness to obtain qualification within 12 months.
- Case Management experience.
- Aboriginality is a genuine qualification and is authorised by Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977
